Aliexpress NAS case... thoughts...?

Other than the outrageous shipping… it seems interdasting. There are versions with more bays…

There are better cases with significantly better airflow (cooling!) and probably better build quality as well.

If you really want a unique case, try to find an old 2003-ish Shuttle XPC enclosure. Gut out the 2003-ish mainboard, drill appropriate holes for stand-offs and mount a mITX board in it. AM4 is a good platform choice in this case. Add 32GB RAM, a 6 or better 8 core CPU, replace the 5.25" drive bay with a 4-slot 2.5" SSD adapter and you’re golden for storage. Add a network card for 2.5,5 or even 10Gb/s connectivity, or a small-ish GPU for Plex transcoding.

for that price you could just get a jonsbo case

aliexpress shipping for cases is always expensive because they almost always get destroyed, plus its low volume and I’m pretty sure we still have tarrifs on things like PC cases

Ah cool I was looking at Jonsbo on Ali, good to know they’re available on newegg. Thanks for the feedback all.

Also going to throw U-NAS into the list, as they do sell their cases separate from their prebuilt systems. I did a N100 build in the 2-bay case they have, but they’ve got a 4 and an 8 bay version as well.

The shipping really does kill any enthusiasm I had for it at first glance. The form factor isn’t half bad though. Something like a ITX N100 would be a nice fit for something like that.

I like chenbro

Yeah I know this company from a 12x drive bay 1u server chassis on Craft Computing. Cool to see they make smaller cases too!
