AKG k240 Studio vs Sennheiser HD 215 II

Hello people, I know this is sort of an odd question, but i want to get some new headphones and I have to choose out of these 2, I have found different opinions on each but nothing comparing the two or something close(at least,I don’t think I have). This is my first time buying headphones that are more into the high quality side of things so I i’m not that experienced. Now what i’d like to know is how durable they would be if anyone owned any of them, i’m looking to buy them and keep them for an long while, how would they fare with gaming, like positioning in FPS games and maybe immersion in games like Skyrim, i enjoy playing quite a lot of genres. I guess that for music these 2 would fare quite well with anything Rock and Metal maybe some EDM or chiptunes, basically electronic music. From what I understand so far, the AKG should have better positioning since they are semi-open and the Sennheisers are closed back so the positioning wouldn’t be as good, but the bass would be deeper. I’m still a bit overwhelmed by the amount of information there is, but i still cannot make an decision. Any suggestion is helpful.

Neither. The AKG 240 would be a good option, but they do not sound the greatest right out of a computer. You need a little more power for them.

I would get the sennheiser HD201s. They are super cheap, and they sound a lot better than the 215s.

I know that seems counter intuitive, but the 215s are marketed more towards djs and they just jacked up the price for no real reason.

The HD201s actually sound really nice, and they are literally cheap as dirt. If you have an older motherboard or maybe you just want better audio, you could easily afford an asus dgx to pair with it.

I see, with the HD201s i'd have enough in my budget to get an ASUS DGX, my motherboard isn't that old and it should be able to handle the audio well.

You can either take a chance on the 240s or go for the 201s.

What ever you do, just do not go for the 215s. I literally listened to them for like 5 seconds before I threw them across the room and beat them to death with a wooden spoon.

I found some 201s for like 12$, i didn't bother checking because of the low price. Didn't think they might be any good.

I made the same mistake for the longest time.

I actually got a pair for my friend who was trying to shoot a film for school and his headphones died.

I ran to guitar center picked up a pair. I actually apologized in advance because it was the only thing I could afford with my pocket change and I knew it was gonna be shit.

It turned out to be pretty decent. The bass was warm (albeit a little weak), the highs were present but not piecing.

Was it spectacular? No. Definitely not. But at the same there was nothing about them that sounded blatantly wrong.

Here is how I see it.

The K240s would sound better if you had a small sound car with a small dedicated amp. You basically need a little bit more power than what your motherboard can probably provide.

The K240s plus a asus dgx is about the same price as a audio technica ath-ad700x which needs absolutely no extra power and can plug right into your computer no problem. AND the AD700x would provide a better gaming experience without breaking a sweat.

Basically either get something good and cheap, or spring for the entry level gear. Getting something in the middle is just not going to make you happy. That includes super lux headphones in case anyone mentions.

From what i'm getting here, if gonna get something around low to medium end, i'm not gonna get the most i can get especially if i go with the medium end since it's more or less the same stuff as in the low end, but with more bling and if i'm to go with something good, save up some cash for some high end headphones, it's well worth than to get something medium and disappointing.

Yeah.

Basically either go low end and be content

Or go a little bit higher up the food chain and be happy.

If you go in between those two, you are just going to be unsatisfied.
