Switches, Hardware Controller, 2 out of the 3 Mellanox NICs (running at 10G, actually closer to 7G since I forgot to do my homework on the motherboard and it’s crappy X1 PCIE layout . Still better than 1G) 2.5G NIC moved into the Immich box, and DACs are all online. Still waiting for the dual port NIC to arrive from eBay which will be here the day after I go back out of town of course lol. Could have utilized some m.2 to pcie riser but I’ll leave the jank until laterDefinitely got some cleaning up to do and I’m leaving the onboard NICs accessible for a future management Vlan, until then it will be a fall back via consoling in the old fashioned way (keyboard and mouse) oops I got to get better with priorities, NAS next I promise
Somewhere down the road I think I lost my mind thinking this was a hobby, wondering if I could subcontract out the cable management Sad thing is the center 120m fans will be replaced by these ARCTIC S12038-4K and another fan hub tomorrow so needless to say this node will be down for a little bit. Oh well have a RaidZ2 configuration I need to finish setting up now that badblocks and smartctl came back clean on the drives I recently purchased
Home Depot, Menards, Amazon and other places should have “cable tie mounting bases” or double sided tape zip tie mounts that you can stick onto the inside of the chassis and organize your cables neatly. May need to use Very High Bond VHB double sided tape for it to stick longterm. There aren’t a lot of great options to cable manage when the case doesn’t have provisions for it, worth a try.
Looking a lot better compared to the cluttered assortment of desktop cases pilled up and slowly feeling more like an actual homelab, less like a science project
I’ve used a few “vertical wall mounted racks” from Amazon that are 3u, 4u or more. The better 4u ones are rated for over 100lbs and can hold your rack mounted cases with the top facing out for access.
Would probably be best to mount a half sheet of 3/4 Plywood (not OSB) to the wall with good concrete anchors, then short wood screws to mount the vertical racks to the plywood.
While it’s not the best way to have a bunch of rack mount gear, it will be secure, accessible, relatively affordable and get things off the desk and out of the way, plus cable managing on plywood is pretty simple with some 1 hole straps.
