It would be great to clear this up. Specifically, can anyone say if the ProArt B550-CREATOR supports AER with the current UEFI (3702 from 2024-09-25)?
It should appear under Advanced → AMD CBS → NBIO Configuration → Advanced Error Reporting (AER) (or something similar).
(Conjecture: possibly gated by other choices such as IOMMU, SR-IOV, x2APIC? Edit: Probably not though: I experimented with my AM5 UEFI and none of these settings affected the availablilty of the AER option there.)
Edit: Also, is it possible to disable Advanced → AMD CBS → CPU Common Options → Platform First Error Handling?
I’d like to get a motherboard with two CPU-connected PCIe slots (x16/-, x8/x8, x8/x4x4), and the ProArt B550-CREATOR looks nice on paper and is still available. Since the whole idea is to have good PCIe connectivity, lack of Advanced Error Reporting would put a major damper on things however. (Too bad about the possibly degrading-over-time i225-V rev3 NICs but I guess I can use an add-on card if needs be.)
Actually, reading your two comments again they are not really contradictory. Could it be that the option is not available in the UEFI but AER is supported anyway?
I should also add that none of these settings appear on my current ASRock B550M-HDV + Ryzen 4650G. There’s also no
pcieport 0000:00:xx.x: AER: enabled with IRQ nn
lines in the kernel log with this combo. Perhaps it’s a CPU thing and AER is disabled even for the Pro APUs?
If I remember correctly BIOS updates fixed the availability of PCIe AER on the ASUS ProArt B550.
I can check that motherboard next week, do you want to use an AM4 APU or CPU with it? Depending on if there is an APU or CPU in it, different BIOS options get displayed on AM4 and AM5 motherboards.

Primarily it would be an upgrade for my Ryzen PRO 4650G. If that APU doesn’t support AER or doesn’t allow disabling PFEH, then maybe I’ll upgrade to something like a Ryzen 5700X later.

@aBav.Normie-Pleb I see you were on a quest to check out APU systems a few years ago! What were your general conclusions?
Specifically, what’s your thoughts on this ProArt B550-CREATOR? Apart from Thunderbolt issues at release I can find surprisingly little about it online, especially from people using it as a server board. Perhaps it was too expensive and released too late to get a lot of buyers?
Bad news about the BIOS with an APU (4750G) regarding AER. Seems nothing has changed, with the APU the NBIO Common Options Sub Menu is significantly cut down compared to a regular Zen 2 or Zen 3 CPU.
My only reason for using AM4 APUs were systems where I didn’t want to use a dGPU since I wanted all the PCIe otherwise, that reason has vanished with AM5 CPUs and their integrated iGPU which can even properly do HDMI 2.1, something that never really worked with AM4 APUs. Also CPU Bifurcation is limited on AM4 APUs (no x4-x4-x4-x4) and non-existent on AM5 APUs.
If these limitations don’t matter I haven’t had any issues with the used ProArt B550 in the past few years.

Thanks! That’s a shame, it would have been a slam-dunk buy if it supported AER with the Pro APU. The split PCIe slots (and dual NICs) are still clear upgrades compared to my current board, but… I’ll have to think about it. Might be better to wait for AM6.
Nice to see the PFEH setting at least, so ECC issues should be visible to the OS.
For me, the lower idle power draw of the monolithic AM4 APUs was an important factor as well, along with not needing a dGPU (which obviously has its own power draw as well, apart from taking up a slot). With the ProArt’s x4 slot being x16 physical I guess one could look for some old, low power, single-slot dGPU to use with an AM4 CPU in this board, and still have the CPU lanes available in a flexible way. But I’m guessing that would take my at-the-wall idle power draw from 30 W to something like 50 W. :-/

I get exactly what you’re saying, I too spent much time chasing the “the most efficient low-medium performance systems” for a while. I capitulated here since “something” is always not working right, even if it has nothing to do with the theoretical limits of a specific platform.
(I “solved” this by using two mainstream platform systems as “servers” that still cost less than Threadripper or Epyc and even their combined power draw is lower than one of these platforms. While I don’t get 12-channel TBs of memory, 64 or 128 PCIe lanes, I can live with around 24-32).
But I’m not happy with that since one AM5 system for my specific purposes here would be enough if I could just use all the platform’s resources properly.
A current example: I find every AM5 motherboard to be shit, for desktops the ProArt X870E is at least redeemable since it gives a user the opportunity to get almost everything out of AM5. I don’t get why there aren’t any AM5 motherboards targeted for small servers/businesses with x8 (CPU), x8 (CPU), x8 (CPU, using the lanes commonly routed to the M.2 slots) and x4 (Chipset) PCIe slots. I mean you have a hundred different models that are basically the same and not a single variant in that configuration. It baffles me.

Indeed. It’s almost as if AMD forbade their board partners from implementing every “naturally” supported feature in any one board. “Here’s a list of features, omit at least two from any board you make.” A way to always keep the consumer unsatisfied and perpetually looking for an “upgrade”?

From the specs page, it seems you can get x8 (x16 PCIe slot) + x8 (MCIO) + 2x x4 (shared between MCIO and 2x M.2 slots). All CPU Gen5.0 lanes.
Edit: There’s also 2 GbE and 2 SATA ports; I guess that’s the chipset lanes?
I haven’t seen any availability (or price) though. Edit: Or even a manual!
They basically have just announced it. I guess it will be available in the next year.
