Adding power and reset switches to PiKVM because... cats

So I am going to start working out how to add a power and reset button to the PiKVM I have set up with my workstation, and I’m wondering if anyone has done this before.

My cat (not even my cat actually, the one that just hangs around to eat her food) likes to get my attention by hopping up on my workstation.
I love my Meshify XL, but with the power and reset buttons being on top of the case, and a very persistent cat, my entire workstation gets shutdown by a misplaced paw almost daily.

To his credit, it does get my attention.

Now I could and have considered simply disconnecting the front panel power and reset buttons and using just the PiKVM to emulate those button presses, but I don’t want to lose the manual control they provide, so I would like to add this functionality to the PiKVM physically.

If anyone has seen this done, I would greatly appreciate a link.
If not, I’ll do my best to document my findings and share them here. It should be fairly simple and analog.

Gotta love cats

The fix is to tape a coin or a bottle cap over the button. An improvised molly-guard as it were. Easy to un-tape one side when you need access, then put back in place.

that’s awesome! It makes me happy that I’m not the only one with cheeky cats

@DrLucky have you ever thought of keeping a empty Windex bottle filled with water near your desk to spary the cats with? Do that a few times and they will stay away from your equipment. Cats really hate water.

an easy fix i did is i unwired my power button and wired my power on pins to my reset switch since its very hard to hit. it means reset no longer works though i never used it anyways

If you want to get fancy you could even buy this Silverstone remote start and don’t piggy back the hardware buttons to it. The possibilities are endless!

What I wanted to do was make a wire loom that moves all the front panel connections to a small box closer to my monitor. Maybe you could even do that.
