Hello,
I am looking for Active Noise Cancelling Headphones.
Price range $100-$200 maybe even 250 if it will completely eliminate airplanes sound.
I searched in google for comparison, to see which is best. The only results I found were review based comparison. Instead of hard data that shows which headphone removes from what frequencies this or that much dbi.
I use Audio Technica ATH-M40X Closed Headphones. Love them and they're so well-designed in terms of being closed that I have trouble actually talking with them on because it's hard to hear myself.
I do not like to be one who tells kids Santa does not exist, but you live me no choice. So I truly do fell sorry to tell you that "Audio Technica ATH-M40X" is not active noise canceling!
active noise cancellation relies on software, if you really want total isolation i recommend molded in-ear monitors. this is what performers use on stage. might be over $200, depends on what region you are in. but you get a mold made of your ear. and it fits on the buds like most of the consumer grade come with 3 sizes.. these are made for your ears only. might help with the air pressure too!
Sorry for taking for so long to post final verdict. 1st I have to mention that this is my 1st Active noise canceling Headphones. 2nd I have to mention is. That this is my 1st High End Headphones. 3rd For some who has problem understanding how Active Noise canceling works @FrogE@exbalto and especially @totalbore
Imagine Noise as numbers 1, -4, 5, -3, if you take this numbers and flip them into there opposites -1, 4, -5, 3, and add them you will get 0,0,0,0 (no noise) This all in Theory. In practice you have deal with the Time, noise source and so on.
The reason software is useless @totalbore. Software needs to be calculated by CPU and this takes time. Time which you do not have. Only time you have is the difference in the speed of electricity vs speed of sound. So for this process they are probably using ASIC's(application-specific integrated circuit).
Now for the final Review of Audio Technica ATH-ANC9 They definitely do work and remove most of the noise. What is left is totally is acceptable, even in the airplane settings.
As for the sound quality they are extremely great however sound seems to be more concentrated toward the mids.
What I do not like is it's selection of frequencies for noise canceling. I preferred if it had usb connection so I could twik them by my self. But this could be impossible due to ASIC's.
Also another con is if you are in quite place, and you decide to use this Headphone to listen some music, and want to experience good sound quality. For this you have turn on this headphone by which you will be turning on the Noise canceling. Which even in so called "Library setting" in quite environment adds low but audible hising static noise.
