Access point or multi box for Wi-Fi?

Hi y’all

I moved into a new apartment saying goodbye to my old ISPs Cisco APs…

The new ISP has provided me with a small Zyxel box that ain’t gonna cut it.
The Wi-Fi signal is so poor, and the router part is soon to be swapped with my OPNsens box.

Phones, laptops and TVs are on the Wi-Fi, and right now I am only able to stream 480p from netflix.
With the box correctly places in the appartement.
I am not able to mount anything in the sealings, or drag any cables around.
The appartement is squaire and the muti box is centrally placed where then new one is going to live.

So here is my dilemma.
I can get an Asus router (ASUS RT-AX53U) with more antennas then the cable van for 60-80€

Or should I get an AP where the okay ones starts from 75~€ but the range is unclear.
Like (TP-Link EAP613 or Zyxel NWA50AX)

I like the TP-Link APs from their business line.

Consider the EAP655-Wall mount, that fits into a junction box. The wall mount options may not quite have the range of the ceiling mounted ones, but these may fit easier within the limitations of your appartment.

How about a Mikrotik hAP ax3

Something that runs Mediatek Filogic, throw OpenWrt on it and use it as a dumb AP

… or you could go with Ubiquiti as the most popular/simple choice.

Question for folks running eap660 and similar at home? Does it need a controller? Does it auto update without one?

It does not need a controller but you need to keep an eye out for fw updates. These are coming very infrequently, tho.
