Ok… i ended up here even though i had built a nice 3970x system about two years ago… but that was in beijing… and returning to china after leaving it late last year… now seems like it will not be happening anytime soon… i decided to do a new build here… and still liking threadripper… decided to do another…
So… started looking into this a few weeks ago… and found building in BKK is not as easy as beijing… was not quite as easy to find the newest parts… or reasonable prices… so it ended up being cheapest (and in some cases no other option) to buy from the usa… this has lead to delivery times ranging quite widely… with some things not arriving until early september… so with all this extra time… decided to fill some of that time with sharing this journey… and with that… lets get started…
Here are the items on the way… or soon to be ordered…
- asus wrx80e
- 512GB Samsung M393A8G40AB2 ecc (x8)
- trpro 5975wx
- nvidia a6000
- meshify 2 xl
- silverstone 1650w psu
storage–
- 2x exos 18tb
- 2x black sn850, 2tb
- 4x predator gm7000, 512gb
- 4x firecuda 530, 4tb
other–
- noctua nh-u14s tr4-sp3
- 9x noctua nf-p14s 1200
- gigabyte gc-titan ridge
- asus hyper m.2 card
So… as of now… the motherboard and gpu have arrived… and waiting on the remaining item to arrive… will update as this journey progresses…

Out of interest, how many of the parts had to be sourced from the USA? That really surprises me!
In the end… i ended up with the majority of the items being sourced from the usa… over the several weeks of comparing options… i came to find the following conclusions…
- the heavier items cost quite a bit more in shipping… so unless you have your heart set on a certain case or monitor, etc… best to get local…
- for china… it’s taobao. com … most things are cheaper in china (made the 3070x build considerable cheaper)… bought the meshify 2xl case from taobao as i wanted it… and could not find it in bkk… it have been a couple of weeks… still not here… but they say it is one the way…
- for the mb and memory… could not find in bkk… and with the possibility of memory compatibility issues … and problems with returning and exchanging things in china… decided it was best to buy in the usa…
- psu is from bkk…
- the gpu and 5975wx… amazon… with the 4.99 shipping and 18 months interest free… was better than china prices… could not find in bkk…
- nvme and hds… bkk prices were not competitive… a 16tb exos hd costs the same as a 20tb in the usa… also did not find better prices on china taobao…
- import/customs fees… found this out the hard way… it is best to buy from a seller that includes these fees in the shipping… b and h does… and various amazon sellers do as well… if not… it seems the customs people here like to add some extra fees to keep for themselves… just sayin… but sure to find out more as other items arrive… if anything worth while arises… will be sure to add it to this post… have a good one.

First Post, Hello All!
Good choice on the motherboard. I have built a lot of systems using the same configuration but with the Define 7 XL but i believe they are the same functionally inside. i would highly recommend moving the HDD Plate from the back to the front to allow cables to reach the board via that area otherwise they have to come from the top of the chassis and can be very messy.
I would say though bin that 1650w Silverstone PSU as we have had a lot of them just decide to blow up… literally bang! I would highly recommend the Bequiet Dark Power Pro 12 1500w. It is more than enough for you configuration (Actually if you don’t plan on adding another A6000 the 1200w will be adequate) It has some really nice braided cables as well.
I have experienced high temps on the memory modules when they are fully stacked with 8 modules of 64 or 128gb and have had to actively cool them otherwise it causes memtest errors or crashes during really high workloads. That said i would highly recommend that all 8 modules are populated as from my testing the 8 channel memory (ECC Reg or Non ECC) has a huge impact on performance. I have seen up to 25% performance uplift just going from 4x32Gb to 8x16Gb modules in synthetic benchmarks.
And finally, its a real pain that a lot of the BIOS functionality can only be accessed via the IKVM such as fan profiles/thresholds

Hey… thank you for taking the time to share all that… with that… i will go back the corsair 1600i… my original choice… not to keen to have things blowing up… … probably explains why it was at such a low price… thanks for that… also for the memory tips… i was looking at some 128gb sticks… they were from china… but after contacting them… i just did not have a good feeling that i would be able to return them for a refund without a problem… so i went with the 64gb… and finally… with the prices of the 3090 cratering… i just might pick one up for some fun… thanks again… and feel free to share any other suggestions you have… …

Great News, The Corsaid 1600i is a great PSU but i would highly recommend getting one of the braided cable kits. The main reason i do not use corsair as the standard cables have huge stiff pieces of heat shrink sleeving glued onto the cables making it very difficult cable manage, keep them tidy and look good.

Well… the pile has grown a little over the weekend… can play that game for finding the difference between two pictures… but it the difficulty level seems pretty low… anyway… hoping for some deliveries this week… have a good one all…

yep … that was the reason i was considering the silverstone psu… it has flat wires… i used the corsair 1600i in my last build… and did not like that exact problem… difficult to organize the cables due to the inflexibility of many of the that psu’s connecting wires… actually if you have a suggestion for another psu with flat wiring… that would be great… have a good one.

It is only the 1650w Gold Silverstone that i have experienced issues with. The 1500w Titanium was a very good PSU and uses the same cables. I believe they are made by different companies for Silverstone but i could be incorrect.
I would highly recommend the Bequiet Dark Power 12 1500w Titanium all the cables are individually braided and come with cable combs. The GPU power cables are a single connector at the PSU end and splits out to 2 sets of fully braided cables.
Its not a cheap PSU but is very very good. If there was one downside i could say about the PSU is that its got a really nice brushed black finish but most cases you cant see it…
DARK POWER PRO 12 | 1500W silent high-end Power supplies from be quiet!
As i said though if you are going to get the Corsair then i highly recommend their cable kits.
Premium Individually Sleeved PSU Cables Pro Kit Type 4 Gen 4 – Black (corsair.com)
They come in a nice variety of colours and are nice and flexible maybe a little too much but come with cable combs to tidy them up.
Well… the end of another week… seems the memory on its way to me disappeared somewhere in the midwest usa… the pile has had one large addition… and a couple small ones… so that is it for now…

太好了… the 5975wx has arrived… such great news… only to be followed up with the fact the psu and the ram has not yet arrived yet… so still some waiting before the build can officially begin…

Well at least you wont have to wait 2 years for your next build because the parts are so expensive, like me.

My best suggestion is to get an amazon credit card… often can get 18 month interest free payments with that… also… i think b and h photo… ebay may have similar payment options… good luck…
@ShuaiGuy Thanks for the suggestion, but I am finally out of debt, so I am not going back into debt. From now on, I only purchase an item if I have the cash. The only exception to that rule is if I were to buy another home. Also, I don’t need a new build; it’s a want, not a need.
@ShuaiGu nice setup I am also in the process of using the same Fractal case and ASUS motherboard would be interesting to see the cable management in the case.
In Australia so parts are even more scarce here
Yep… i know where you are coming from… things can get out of control pretty fast… i think it goes something like this… gee… that threadripper 5900x is nice and affordable as well… but then again… if i use 18 month financing… that 5965wx would even be better… and the same rationalizing for the gpu… and then the monitor… and after a month or two… and that total credit card bill comes in… and its time for a heart attach… yep… i do know the feeling… good luck…
