I have a W11 HTPC for playing movies on my main TV, that I want to upgrade to game on as well.
I only game occationally, but since prices likely will start rising and the end of the year with no end in sight, and the super models postponed, I figured to get a discreet GPU this BF, and a low to mid range at that, as I still think we are getting shafted on price - perf, while Nvidia actively neuters cheaper skus high res capabilities (memory bandwidth & VRAM), to ensure faster obsolescence. Its a monopoly. AMDs failures to produce competing gpus means there is little competition, and AMDs lack of attacking Nvidia on price. That it works, can be seen in that AMD when priced aggressively has outsold Nvidia, which they first has done now for some of the skus. AMD execution of the dGPU segment leaves lot to be desired. The Super series also show, Nvidia would fight to protect its market share from AMD, if it where not for AI…
Intel has not gotten skus over the entry level.
So we still face a bad market for GPUs, as we have since mining. No need to invest more than needed.
It will drive my LG OLED 65" 120Hz 4K HDR via an AVR a Denon 3800H. Both supports VRR. The HTPC is a 12600k, Asrock 790 itx, 650w PSU, running win W11. For now.
I wanted the 9060 XT 16GB, but as it costs 360€, and 5060 TI 16GB 400€, eg 10% more, its not enough to favour AMD, as far as I gather. The 5070 12Gb cost 466€, so less interesting. The better TI 16GB costs 735€. As Steve on GN says about AMDs GPUs, they never miss a chance to miss a chance, which is also true now, as many are fed up with Jensens shenanigans in abusing his monopoly to milk the gamers, which he has done since Nvidia took over scalping from the scalpers in the hardware wise fine 30xx series during the mining & covid…
Its the Gigabyte 5060 Ti WINDFORCE OC 16G.
Should I set it to 1440p in the games and then let the TV upscale to its native 4K 120Hz HDR? I’ll be gaming from the couch.
I’ll also need a 5.0 riser for the cabinet, or rather a 90 deg with 20cm cable. As the 5060ti is 5.0 x8, the 4.0 I have will do.
For those who need GPU in their server, this could also be used, as it only take half the 5.0 slot, leaving the other 8x lanes for a server nic/storage etc. But then a 8x & 8x riser is needed.
USB extender cables for key & mouse or do you guys use bluetooth for that also for FPS games like CS?
