500$ or less build

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GqiK

Set this up for a buddy of mine, its about as cheap as he can go.

Everything needs to stay[mouse/keyboard storage etc] since he moved and has nothing to start with

We need suggestions before he orders in about a week or so

I should add, dont count mail in rebates. It should be under 500$.. if it goes over it needs to be minor.

The 1 stick of ram is because he will grab another identical stick when he gets extra money

The psu is overkill

Hey, well honestly I have gone through everything you have listed and for the price you are working with I could not find much better. The only thing I found was this 1TB HDD on sale at Newegg that might be a bit of an upgrade. Besides that everything you have picked out cannot really be found less expensive. The drive is about ½ of the way down the page.

We've been shopping for his build for a few months lol but @anarmypig Do you have any recormendations?

you could get away with a smaller PSU easily, but now that I have looked at the prices, I see that you would only save $6 by buying a smaller one. The one you originally had in mind is fine.

400W should be fine.

i would suggest a A10 but the price would be off set by the faster memory. it would also depend on what kinda of games he wants to play and at what resolution

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GJ9A  has a nice upgrade path.

or

instead you could get a cheaper FM2 motherboard of your choice

just my opinion.

Mobo is cheap but what can ya' do. Seems good.

Cheaper case without too much compromise.

Cheaper Quad Core AM3 CPU (still enough for that card)

Cheaper PSU which is more than capable of running upto a Radeon HD 7870.

More expensive GPU, but worth it if you can stretch.

That is all you can do to improve without hitting the performance too much lower..

Do I need to say more? 500$

The only way logan got away with that was because of sales, if you throw that exact build together its more like 650$

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GN5S

Well heres what we threw together today, He doesnt wana go with a APU and apparently he doesnt like that case @Recon-UK since it has sharp edges he heard?

Dang prices changing daily. he also wants a mousepad, HDMI cable and a wireless adapter so i guess were just over 500 at the momment.

Why do people keep shoving a single stick of ram in a dual channel board and thinking it's ok?

So if I shove a 1x4GB 1600 mhz in a 4x DDR3 dual channel motherboard, the whole system will catch fire? Because I was planning on doing a 4GB stick first, and later upgrading to a 8GB system.

@Vortex88 We did it for upgrading purposes, Hes on a tight budget. Is it bad to run just 1 4GB stick?
