I already have a beefy system, but my friend want's me to pick the parts for his. How does this parts list look.
That Good You build.
So You can use amd processor good gaming and overclock.
Why the 6350 over the 6300
You could go for the 6300 if you want to shave the price down a bit, but 6350 is faster.
What about the G3258. I have seen benchmarks that put that CPU's gaming performance at a similar level to the 4790k.
The only problem I have with it is that it is a dual core and that will limit you quite a bit in games.
Your right about that, but my friend mostly want's to play Minecraft and other indie games.
I would still get the 6300 over the pentium, it will be better in the long run.
the AMD will be just fine for him. No need for 4790k perf. I can guarantee that if the G3258 actually had the 4790k perf, no one would buy a 4790K. So, no it does not have that kind of perf.
This build is just fine for Minecraft and Indie Builds.
You can of course swap the 260X for a 750ti.

But your build has a lesser GPU equivilant CPU and costs more.
By the way I was not saying the G3258 had the same performance as the 4790k, but it has the same architecture as the i7, and achieves the same core clock the biggest difference is the number of cores.
Because it has AC wireless built into it. Also, keep in mind the hard drive in your build does not have a price tag on it. Meaning that your build has an incomplete pricing. The 860k is not an equivalent CPU. It is a superior CPU simply by it having 4 cores (2 more than the g3258) and being able to be OC'd to hell and back.
here is a build without the AC wireless and using an mATX board and case: oh yeah and the gpu is comparable or better

Just a thing to note about dual core cpu's --> http://www.pcper.com/news/Processors/Far-Cry-4-Does-Not-Support-Dual-Core-Processors-Budget-Landscape-Shifting
This is going to be a growing trend as dual cores are being phased out and 'next gen' port overs are more frequent.
The i7-4790k is a Devils Canyon architecture. the G3258 is a PENTIUM architecure. ... not the same.
Sure they both use 1150 and Devils Canyon is technically haswell but they are not the same.
as quoted from Eurogamer
Imagine a 3.2GHz Core i3 based on the Haswell architecture with less
cache and no Hyper Threading - that's effectively what the G3258 is.
Just be prepared to accept that the G3258 is based around a processing
concept that many game-makers have left behind, and that if you're
looking to run the latest and greatest titles at high frame-rates,
there's the possibility that you could find yourself upgrading sooner
rather than later.
Actually devils canyon does include the G3258 and it's overclocking ready.
Devil’s Canyon, the codename for the upgraded Haswell overclocking ‘K’ series SKUs, launches as two parts: an i7 and an i5.
The new Devil’s Canyon processor is actually two CPUs, an i5 (quad core) and an i7 (quad core with hyperthreading).
the g3258 is considered as haswell refresh not DC
OOPS sorry your right about devils canyon, but the G3258 still has great per core performance.
yes it has good IPC but games are going quad core. and, if he goes with a Linux install, he will be fine. Linux and indie games go together like chocolate and sex.
Yeah he probably should get a quad core. What quad core cpu would you recommend around the same price.
