I decided to rebuild my NAS in a rackmount chassis, preferably 3U but 4U is fine. Here’s all the storage I will be throwing in:
Seagate IronWolf Pro 12TB HDD (4x) (3.5")
Samsung 870 QVO 2TB SSD (2.5")
Samsung 850 Evo 4TB SSD (2.5")
Samsung 860 Pro 2TB SSD (2.5")
Samsung 960 Pro 1TB SSD (M.2)
Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSD (M.2)
TL;DR I need a 3U/4U case with at least 4x 3.5" bays (preferably hot-swap) and 3x 2.5" bays. I’ll be using a Micro-ATX motherboard and an APU (probably 4750G). Any recommendations are welcome.
as well as a 3 5.25" bays to 5 3.5" hotswap bays ( and a single hotswap bay) to house 6 4TB drives. there is room for another 3.5 to 5 bay hotswap, or whatever ssd hotswap bays are available.
something like this may work:
