I'm building a High End Rig. I've chosen the ASUS ROG Maximus V Extreme as my motherboard. It has been bought.
Now to the things I need help with. I've decided to go Crossfire/Sli, no more than two cards. I've noticed that the card(s) I've been eyeballing for a while, not bought yet. The ASUS MATRIX Radeon HD 7970 3GB is a Triple slot card.
And is it possible to Crossfire two Triple-slot with also having a ASUS Xonar Phoebus soundcard installed as well. Because Right now it looks like the soundcard wont have a slot open with two tri-slot cards.
So if turns out that it do not fit. which of these Dual slot cards would be the best alternative.
HIS Radeon HD 7970 3GB IceQ x2 GHz Edition GPU
EVGA GTX 690
Or other High end GPU with good cooling. IF 2x tri-slot and a Soundcard won't fit on the board I've chosen
From what I can see it looks like the sound card will not fit. With 2 triple slot cards the only PCIE is at the bottom of the board and the second card will block it. I know you are building a high end unit but I would honestly go with 1 ASUS MATRIX Radeon HD 7970 3GB. This will allow you the room for the sound card and give that beautiful graphics card some breathing space. My feeling is 2 of those cards is a bit over kill. If you really want to go crossfire then I would use the HIS Radeon HD 7970 3GB IceQ x2 GHz Edition GPU. I have been looking at the HIS IceQ Turbo H785QT2G2M. It is only 2GB of DDR 5 but the video gives some awesome benchmarks and cooling temperatures.

Hope this has been of some help and which ever way you go, have fun and enjoy you build.
What do you plan on doing?
thanks a Lot :) it really helps.
Gaming for the most part on a dual monitor setup. Also video editing and not much but some 3d modeling
thanks Evo80ci :) it really helps
