hey ive got a single stick of 8GB and im always running out of memory which causes my pc to slow down (should cut down on the amount of tabs open in google chrome :P) and im wondering if i could get another 8GB ram stick to make it 16GBor do i have to have the same memory to get it working?
I would say as long as the motherboard supports it the brand of your ram isn't that important if that's your question. I have 3 different brands of ram on the 4 slots of my motherboard and no problem.
Nope. It'll rip a hole in the space-time continuum. subtle sarcasm

OEM vendors even do this. Had an HP with 2x2gig sticks and a 1x1gig stick, two different vendors.
If you can get ram that matches the performance of your stick you should not see any performance decrease. Ram will run at the slowest clocked ram.
But maybe install it in a different channel if possible.
