So everywhere i go i keep seeing how 120hz monitors are better especially when you are playing FPS games. Why is that?
What makes them better i understand that they allow for more frames without visual tearing, but is it possible to even tell the difference at those ridiculous frame rates.
Basically at 120hz, everythings works incredibly smooth, forget numbers, it just feels better when you are extremely focused on the screen, on FPS games specially where you want to look everywhere all the time, focused on your aim, and respond on the heat of fire, a 120hz panel can actually increase your overall performance.
Also, you prevent tearing at all (very common on high speed situations), and you get to enjoy frame ratings over 60+ which enhances the experience. Last but not least, many FPS players tend to be really close to the monitor, 120hz will be healthier for your sight.
On personal opinion, I should say I prefer a better gaming experience by having richer images, deeper colors and a good sound quality, So a nice IPS panel @60hz, with a higher resolution (e.g. 1440p) for me is much better than a fancy 120hz monitor. However I don't enojoy FPS games much really.
If you are a hardcore FPS player then 120Hz is awesome. It will improve your aim, vision when looking around fast, and all sorts of other things. It helps me control recoil in BF3 quite a bit. Also in fast-paced arena games like Rise of the Triad, 120Hz is almost a must.
