Hello everyone!
I hope this is the right thread, didn't see one for laptops.
Anyways, so my brother just had a 8 year old macbook pro die, so now he wants to get another laptop for productivity, this includes Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Premiere Pro CC.
He feels better getting a macbook air or pro because he knows it will last him a while, my concern with that is their specs are quite weak in comparison to what he can get from a windows laptop. The macbooks only have dual core CPU's typically and no discrete graphics cards.
So for $1000, should he get that macbook air/pro or go with a windows laptop? Thanks.
My main question is: Does Apple products still have a good enough life to justify the less powerful hardware and price? Or can windows laptops compare, despite their more powerful hardware?
Well I found the ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JW-NH71 for $999 on Newegg, Amazon price is $1,217
There is also this Levono Y50 with the 1080P not 4K screen, although it is $100 more than the ASUS one, it has pretty solid reviews.
IMHO no way a macbook air is worth it, to little storage unless you pay a heavy "apple tax" for a big SSD, and then the ram is soldered too. a macbook pro might be better but then the price moves higher again
for the money that ROG model isn't as new as this one:

and I'm kinda weary about current Lenovo models. I often hear people have issues with cooling and they whitelist the wifi cards so you cannot upgrade.
the main thing for me anyway, is if you can test some of the models in person to make sure you find one that has a keyboard and screen you like since you cannot normally upgrade them and if you do spend a lot of time on the machine for productivity and are morking with media you at least want a good screen with decent color reproduction and a keyboard that works well.
