Zypper goes Beast Mode! Slowest package manager now the fastest?

I almost got used to it and accepted zypper for it’s ease of use and features. But MAN…a week ago or so they turbocharged the shit out of zypper.

That multi-file download and basically full WAN speed on my side across several hundred packages (I update around twice a week) is really satisfying to see, especially because it was a usual complaint and I certainly wasn’t the only one. I got really jealous about pacman and also dnf being way faster.

NO MORE!

Much love to the SuSE and Tumbleweed team!

Small QoL all things considered…but just feels great.

You should run zypper, btw.

Wow… I didn’t notice that but after just running updates it was quite clear!
I usually run them and go do something else for a few minutes, so it didn’t register before. But that’s huge difference in downloading speed.

I don’t have new updates to run on a Leap 15.6 machine, but I expect that it is a thing for Tumbleweed only for now. I should check if they put it in the Leap 16 beta, would be a great update to include there.

Same here. Looks like that “tradition” isn’t that useful anymore. Those 1.5k packages when I skipped a week, yeah that was taking it’s time for sure.

Living the Leap life

I wouldn’t bet on that being the case. But I’m pretty sure Leap 16 gets this on release.

I run Tumbleweed on my desktop, but have Leap on a NUC running which we use as a media/minecraft server
