I want to know what card i should get. Get the Zotac 980 ti amp extreme or wait for a amd video card that might have more hbm memory in the future?
I'm partially in the same boat as you, but I would caution you to research the Zotach cards, there's a huge thread on overclockers.net on them and the issues fpeople are having........
The HOF one is nice but brings a premium, the MSI seems to ok, and a lot of folks are liking the Gigabyte.....
But I keep going back and forth between this debate vs an R9 390/970 and waiting to see what the next generation of cards brings....
I will be watching to see what kind of responses you get.
Personally I would get a 390, there are 8GB models out now that are cheap enough.
Example here -> http://www.ebuyer.com/715145-xfx-r9-390-dd-8gb-gddr5-dual-dvi-hdmi-displayport-pci-e-graphics-r9-390p-8df6
I trust XFX, I have a 6870 no issues what so ever.
I would splash out for this though http://www.ebuyer.com/714712-sapphire-nitro-r9-390-tri-x-oc-8gb-gddr5-dual-link-dvi-hdmi-11244-00-20g
I feel the 390 has superb price/performance, while its not much faster than previous gen, that buffer will help you when gaming
in 2016 amd will release HBM v2 cards with 8GB.
Yes but hopefully they perform better than the current HBM cards.......
If AMD can stay around for that long.
i don't see any issues anymore... my 290x recently had beaten 980ti at dx12 demo that employs heavy physx and apex...
I'm rooting for them but if Zen and HBM 2.0 doesn't perform I don't see a good end in sight and that won't be good for them or us as consumers.
I'm kind of rooting for the Samsung buy out and bank roll for the AMD team.
Sorry for the late reply I was busy trying to set up my laptop. Back to this video card choice, I want HBM 8gb and I hope that another video card like Sapphire's fury will be more powerful than that Zotac.
I am getting the 980 ti
I did the same congrats
Thank you, let me know how it works. I have a 290x but I like to have a video card that I can keep for a while longer.
I ordered the 980 Ti Hybrid with the AIO Cooling system. I think it's a good match for my Fractal R5 to keep noises down and it doesn't run too hot either.
if AMD is acquired by another company, i don't think they will be able to make x86 processors anymore. I think the current agreement states that if AMD is bought by another company, than the licensing aggreement for AMD is terminated. AMD licenses the x86 instructions from Intel, which allow them to make x86 CPUs.
Then, Intel wouldn't be able to make x64 CPUs as that is licensed from AMD.
I find it likely that unless Apple bought amd and set to work on making AMD processors Apple only, that Intel would renegotiate the deal under with the new owners of AMD in mind. Intel still wants x64 compatibility even if its not as useful as x86 is, and AMD needs x86 support.
I would grab the 980Ti, because its simply the better card over the FuryX atm.
Grab yourself the 980ti......So much epicness. I personaly dont think HBM is there just yet. Also im not sure if its just some fad at the moment or its the future.
I like the 980 ti , I like the zotac 980 ti for the OC.
There are no gamblers here? Hehe.
I say, buy an r9 fury non x, and see if you get one that'll unlock to a "full fat" fury x.
