Zalman Zm-Mic1 + Superlux HD668B mini review

After watching the famous kill your gaming headset vid, I did just that and scapped my razer kraken for the combo above.

Im absolutely in love with these headphones. You can tell a majority of the price went into the headphones, because the packaging is extremely bare and nothing special. My music pallet is all over the place and these seem to do really excellent, especially with mids and highs; bass is very crisp but not boomy. One thing that surprised me is the hd668 has no headphone adjustment, only the pads at the top are adjustable. Fortunately, this thing fits my head great, but I can imagine a situation where someone with a tiny head might have some issues. The exact one I got is here.

I had a lot of complains from my cohorts on skype about the zalman mic when originally using it. And, after listening myself, audio came through extremely muffled and muddy. I played around with gain and a few different options in realteks interface, to no avail. Granted, its a 9 dollar piece of hardware but surely I thought it would be better than the kraken. However, despite early issues with it, the problem seems to have remedied itself. Maybe someone who knows more about mic technology could explain it but after 2 weeks of use, the zm1 actually opened up and sounds great now. not sure how or why this happend? Anyway,  I use it almost on a daily basis now for streaming, and voice chat, its really a great alternative. since there's no mic boom in front of my mouth it only picks up my deep sexy voice, without any unwanted noise.

As a self proclaimed diy'er I feel like an idiot for buying into "gaming headsets". Thanks again Tek Syndicate.
