I want to install a linux partition on my desktop, but I'm having a hard time choosing which flavor to use. I have quite a bit of experience with Ubuntu. So what would you guys suggest as your favorites?
Linux Mint, Ubuntu and Fedora
Easy, my own special brew

snow linux looks nice, ubuntu is probably the best though.
Bactrack. mint is nice too, my fav 'real' distro
Ubuntu, Slackware, Puppy Linux, and OpenSuse
Arch. You'll learn quite a lot along the way as well.
My favorite is debian.
If you want something else that is good you can try CentOS (free, very stable version of RHEL) or Fedora (unstable bleeding edge version of RHEL)
I also recently found a distro that I thought looks pretty good for anyone coming to linux from windows 7. http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=solusos
Ubuntu server edition. Ubuntu packages with support and without the bloat.
Alright thanks guys I think I'm going to stick with Ubuntu as a main Linux partition, adn play around with some of these others.
I don't get all this 'real' linux distro business. I really like the Unity interface of Ubuntu, and 12.04 LTS is soooooo stable for me
I don't get all this 'real' linux distro bissness. I really like the Unity interface of Ubuntu, and 12.04 LTS is soooooo stable for me
I believe they're talking about "full" fledged OSs, and not something like DSL or Puppy Linux
I really like Ubuntu 12.04 due to how stable it is. I REALLY like the Unity DE. I plan on sticking with Ubuntu until they really mess up.
I personally use Ubuntu 12.04, as it's nice, has good package intergration and obviously steam now.
Though I use Debian on the servers I have. Debian is a good one to know as many other versions are based off of Debian (eg Ubuntu)
Backtrack is nice as a pen tester, but I don't like using it everyday.
Damn Small Linux is okay on older machines and if you only need and just need the kernel.
There are soooooooo many different variations that each time I try a different one, I always change my mind on which is best.
ubuntu is the most stable, but fedora (for me) is easily the most enjoyable to use.
I installed Linux Mint 14 just a few days ago. So far I really like it.
I've had Ubuntu running on another machine for a year now and while it's too early to tell, I think I prefer Linux Mint over Ubuntu, though the differences are mainly aesthetics.
ok...
if you want to learn: arch
if you want babys first linux: mint
if you want a pain in the ass: ubuntu server 12.04
if you want to host stuff centos (5.8 is good, have not used new one)
if you want a good os, thats not made for idiots: debian
if choices annoy you: ubuntu
when in doubt, virtual box em all first
Babys first Linux, lol ^^ Can't say I disagree, but I think I'll call it "easy to use", as that doesn't sound quite as belittling ;)
I never had issues with Ubuntu Server though.
Zorin OS hands down
