So I am getting all the parts together for my new PC (been a mac user for 4 years, decided it was time to go back so I can actually do some proper gaming again) and after watching a few videos here on the different rigs I think I have come up with something decent.
However I don't know if its what its over/under kill for what I need.
The toughest game I will be running is Planetside 2 (at least for the near future), everything else will be WoW, starcraft 2 etc, so nothing too demanding. While I say that I want something that'll be on a 2-3 year upgrade cycle, but again, highly doubt anything more then Planetside 2 will be needing to run.
This will only be gaming and general use, so nothing like video editing etc.
This is what I currently have planned:
Case
COOLERMASTER ELITE 311
Processor (CPU)
AMD FX-6300 Six Core CPU (3.50GHz/8MB CACHE/AM3+)
Motherboard
ASUS® M5A97 R2.0 (DDR3, USB3.0, 6Gb/s)
Memory (RAM)
8GB KINGSTON HYPERX GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1866MHz X.M.P(2 x 4GB KIT)
So really I am wondering whether I have too much for what I need? Too little? Was also debating whether the general fan would keep it cool enough or should I get more?
Anyway, hope these posts aren't becoming too annoying for everyone and I would be glad for any advice given.
Very nice system you have Penn, are you planning on adding another graphics card in the future? You can leave your build the way it is right now and be perfectly fine, but you can also trim some bits and save money.
Just a quick bit on the stock cooler, if it is anything like they Phenom II stock coolers , it will be louder then all heck. It may be worth a small $30 investment on a decent cooler even if you do not plan to OC.
Here is how the 7850 does in games at various resolutions: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/549
I'd say it's a pretty solid system. But I don't know about the Vishera CPUs since they haven't arrived in my country. (I live in Singapore, located in SE Asia)
I recommend on spending littlebit more money on case and GPU for more future proof system. The cases airflow is not that great i think that if your looking around 50 euro = 63 USD case i recommend going with Aerocool Strike X GT one or with LC-Power Pro-916Bll those cases should give you the airflow you need and support radiator or more fans for additional cooling. Also they have much more room for bigger videocards you might be installing in future. Second thing i would like to point out is that for few extra dollars/euros you could have Nvidia GTX 660 MSI 2GB Twin Frorz ||| witch would give you an aditional 10fps in games like BF3 or planetside 2 agains Radeon 7850. Hope this will help you build more future proof gaming system =)
I am certainly going to change the cooling system and will do more research into what to get, does not seem worth the noise/risk for the little amount of money.
The Aerocool strike X GT was actually the first case I was looking at (although that was only because I liked the look, not the best reason to buy a case I know!), but if it has more airflow I'll go with that, think its only like £10 more anyway.
Future proofing is really important, really I wouldn't be wanting to change anything for at least 2 years, so if the Nvidia GTX 660 MSI 2GB Twin Frorz ||| would help with that I would go that way.
I really don't know any online shops here... Best thing I know is to go down to Sim Lim and check the stuff out, even though they're much, much more expensive...
A good air cooler that isn't to expensive would probably be the Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo. If you will be playing starcraft 2 I think the nVidia cards will be what you want. I believe benchmarks say that starcraft 2 and the Batman games play better with nVidia because of PhysX.
