Xeon X5270 - Virtualization Bug?

Attempting to sort out something I have heard on the forum, particularly a comment by Wendell in the FreeNAS part one thread. That Xeons older than X56xx (such as X54xx) are affected by the virtualization bug.

Closest info I can find about that is in the VMWare Community:

If you have a multi-processor system with mixed-stepping CPUs and the Intel site says that all of your CPU(s) support VT, but your VMware product says that your host does not support VT, your CPUs may support incompatible revisions of VT-x. This is known to be an issue with the “B” and “G” steppings of Intel processors codenamed “Clovertown” and “Woodcrest.” The only solution to this problem is to obtain an updated BIOS from your system vendor.

Clovertown and Woodcrest cover the E53/L53/X53 and Xeon 51xx series, respectively. I have a system with X5270 CPU’s (Wolfdale-DP), stepping E (part of a HP DL380 G5). By the sound of it, this system could run VM’s, unless I am missing something entirely.
