I am planing to build a new PC and I am looking at CPUs now.
I noticed that benchmark of of the IntelXeon E3-1230 V3 (LGA 1150, 3.30GHz, Unlocked)are very close to the scores of the AMDFX-8350 (AM3+, 4GHz, Unlocked). In my country the Price difference is about 50-60$. But the less expensive AMD won against the Intel slightly. So witch one is better? I love saving that money to spend on a better GPU or on a SSD.
For witch CPU shall I go. I am probably not going to overclock a lot. maybe about 0.3 GHz or so.
To me it looks like the FX would be the better buy, but do not make your decision solely upon this as I am not the most informed person on Xeon processors. Also you can't really OC the Xeon, so if you want to do some overclocking go with the FX.
idk what you need, but a i5 4670 will perform better per thread and you can overclock it some and I believe the non K 4670 will still allow virtualization. so it should be faster than both of your suggestions in any application or game assuming you aren't like, video encoding or something. idk the price difference though or what that xeon processor costs anyway.
You can not overclock the xeon at all, and you don't need to anyway.
FX 8350 is better value, xeon 1230v3/4770 has better performance. Don't bother with them for gaming, minuscule difference, and the FX can make up with overclocking.
Check your benchmarks though, which programs/games you will play
