I just snagged a Xeon E5520 for $15. I'm curious what I can get out of this (in terms of gaming). I have a board for it already if anyone was curious (I got a Dell Precision T7500 MoBo and case for $60). I do not plan on overclocking and I do understand its practically a W3520 that is underclocked for enterprise use. I just got it for so cheap... In the future I plan to do dual Xeon X5650s. I'm just curious as to how this will hold to an R9 280x in terms of gaming. Will there be a bottleneck? I plan on playing Skyrim, the Fallout series, BF4, Source games, and Dishonored in Linux under PlayOnLinux.
That's pretty old CPU. I wouldn't expect it to do very well in games...
you will be surprised how well that cpu will still do in multithreaded games and its a steal for 15 bucks.
Thanks :). It's my first build (and desktop for that matter).
