I'm curious as to how thus cpu would stack up to an FX 6300. There's this one X99 board I found to be reasonably priced, and hell, it's the enthusiast socket for the next 3-5 years. I don't own either, but I'd imagine at stock they'd perform the sake dye to the better ipc of the Xeon. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I use this chip for my server, it works well, I tried gaming on it but wasn't happy with the performance.
Does this chip even work with normal DDR4 ram?

only downside with x99 is the damn ram pricing.....especially if u need ecc
just depends what its for as the xeon can support more ram....amd would be cheaper but you'd prolly be stuck with addon cards to get the latest innovations such as msi's x99 with usb 3.1
I think it's locked down to DDR4 1600, however it should down clock the normal 2133 DDR4.
The board I'm looking at is the Deluxe from Asus. I may or may not jump on X99 just due to the price it's being offered at. This will be something I work on until around the summer. After that, I'll upgrade it over the next few years. I plan to keep it for at least 6-8 years so why not jump on X99. It pays for itself.
I'd just like to add I plan on using it primarily for virtualization. That's why I'm looking at the E5. Not that I'll need or use them, but it also has 40 pci lanes. Most of my games are old so they should run just fine. As long as I can run them at 30fps 1080p I'm fine. I plan to grab a 5930k or 5820k around the launch of Star Citizen (late 2016ish).
