Xeon 1230v3/i5 4440 motherboard

hi guys.

building 2 pc's soon and i'm gonna buy a i5 4440 and a xeon 1230v3.

i was looling at the b85-g41 mate for both but i can't find if the mobo supports the xeon. i heard some mobo's don't support the xeon. does someone knows this and if you know a good mobo let me know:D

max size is atx. (corsair 200r)

Both the E3-1230 V3 and the i5 4440 are supported.

thanx!

No problem. Decent looking board by the way, not too frilly, but still has the necessities.

true, it's not the best board in the world but i just need a descent board that does the job and is reliable. do you know if i can change the voltage? i'm not gonna oc it but i'm gonna undervolt it so it will run for longer. the pc is build for 7-10 years.

xeon's are allready undervolted and cherry picked to be 110% stable for 24/7 use i wouldn't worry about it too much.

I honestly don't know since I've never tried, but like cooperman said, they are designed primarily with servers in mind, so they should be stable for long periods of time while under load.

do you have a budget in mind for those boards?

i don't think a higher end motherboard will be better or is the msi one really bad?

i just need to plugin a wifi card, a gpu, 1 ssd, 1 hdd and maybe some more hdd.

hdd on a sata 3gbs vs 6gb/s?

i forgot to say i'm dutch. 85 euro for that board is a lot.

if you dont care alot about feutures the msi still has 4 sata 6GB/s and 2 sata 3gb/s ports so basicly you are not realy lack of that. its not realy a bad board since you don´t overclock at all.

The H87 chipsetboard only offers a bit more feutures basicly. But there is also a B85 killer board. it does has a better powerphase. E2200 killer lan

Wendell did a review on this one.

what are the extra feutures? and more phases is more stable and less V with same clockspeed. but i can't oc a i5 4440 right? maybe .4ghz i believe but i'm not sure.

hi guys got a question. the b85-g41 hase only 3 ports on the i/o panel. most have 6. were you plug you speakers in u know? if the mobo is in your case, the lowest ports on the i/o panel. 3 ports a problem?

Three ports are only a problem if you are running surround sound directly from the motherboard. If you're not running surround sound directly from the motherboard then three ports are fine.

you can overclock, but i would not recommend it, if you not know what your doing, well more feutures of the H87 chipset are 6 sata 6 ports, and a better sound chip, maybe some usb ports. but the B85 killer is also a nice board. it has a better lan chip then the msi and, and a better sound chip.

But if you totaly not care about all that, then the msi is just fine realy.

i'm pretty sure you can't oc a i5 4440 that far. but it think i will go with the i5 4670k and the h87 board. after 7 years i probably oc it so i don't need to buy a new one. like my i5 750. if i could oc it will be much much better. i think it's worth the extra cost.

its pointless if you go with a  unlocked K cpu on a H87 chipsetboard, basicly, because  H87 is not a full overclock chipset. for a K cpu and you want to overclock, then its better to get a Z87 board. because this board contains all the feutures for overclocking a K cpu.

a non K cpu with a locked multiplier, you can only overclock a tiny little bit raising bus speeds, and voltage. But its not realy a brainer. thats why on an locked cpu i would recommend a H87 or a B85 chipsetboard. because, its pointless to go Z87 then.

wasn't the h87 from asrock a oc h87 board? so i don't need a high priced z87 board sinds i don't care about sli/crossfire. it has 8+2 powerphases or 6+2 i don't now that for sure.

the z87 is really expensive. h87 is 85 euro incl btw and the z87 is 120 euro incl btw.

i'm gonna go with the i5 4670k with the h87 board from asRock. so i can oc if needed and have a solid board overall with higher end components than the msi one. i pay a little more overall but i think it's worth it and i hope it will run 7 years+, 20 euro isn't a lot over 7 years.

20 euro across 7 years is like buying an extra pair of socks once a year. Being able to overclock would definitely help when it's approaching seven years. I wish you luck!

thanx. i'm gonna build it next week:) it's kind of sad building a better pc than i'm currently using:(. wish i could oc my i5 750
