With the release dates of the Xbox One and PS4 approaching, could you put together a video or list of components for a PC that would have similar graphical performance so I can convince my friends to convert to PC gaming.

For graphical performance for the amount of money, you won't beat the new consoles. They will be making initial lossed on those systems as well to get them out, they make profit in the future. How ever, i'd say you could match them / do better with a mid range gaming system for about £550 - £600.
6800k apu,cheap mobo,8 gigs of ram,storage oriented drive,cheap psu is about the specs of the newgen consoles.

you can't build a system that has the same power, pk mouse and keyboard will cost like 30 bucks, case 50 bucks, power supply 50 bucks, 7870 180, hard drive 50 bucks, ram 70 bucks and it won't even be gddr5 ram, cpu around a 130 bucks, motherboard 50 bucks, windows 80. Total is 570, its 170 over, a lot weaker and games will look worse, it won't be as optimized as the ps4. You can't build a machine like the ps4 for the same price and get equal performance.
nowhere did the op say it had to cost the same, from the specs that we know, it looks like an fx8320 or maybe fx6300 paired with a 7870 or maybe 7850 should be able to match it, i would estimate needing a 700-800 dollar budget
but of course the consoles will have better optimization, how much it's hard to say, with them being x86 it could be much closer than it has ever been
