Looking at the prices I feel that it is a bit over priced. even with the 300 dollar cpu. But I know that many even my self wants the 8 cores.
do you think this stuff is worth buying?

Depends on what the uses are.
For workstations, yes. For the remaining 99% of us, no.
Maybe about a year from now the prices for the motherboards and DDR4 RAM may have dropped a bit, making the whole package more appealing. Right now they (X99, DDR4) don't provide any tangiable benefit outside very special cases. A six core socket 1150 CPU would have been an easy sell even at a slightly higher price.
+1 to everything here.
If you are going to build a serious workstation then yes. Buy it. Might as well as it isn't that much ore than X79 and you have a better platform with more features.
For most people though? No.
Definitely not for a gamer build maybe when they pull more speed out of all those cores ... right now they are more like Clydesdales than thoroughbred racers.
for gaming and general use its not worth it.
only if you render allot of video during the day, or if you do allot of productivity work.
I´m also concidering a 5820K my self, as an upgrade from my FX8350, however €250,- is allot of money to spend for 4x4GB DDR4 memory. If i upgrade to 4790K then i dont have to buy new memory so yeah, that would be 250 more to spend into a gpu.
i do have the money for 5820k but yeah....choices choices.
But like i said if you are a gamer, then just go Z97.
Unless you have a deep enough pocket for the 8 core or 6 core plus the extortionate prices of ddr4, then have an actual workload that will take advantage of the grunt then no.. Waste of money.
Socket 1150 or am3 will suffice for nearly everyone but the very few. Even with the limited number of pcie lanes. Even if in a multi gpu setup the pcie lanes run at 8x it makes next to no difference. I run my gtx980 in a 8x slot (just so my build looks cleaner) and the difference between that and the 16x slot is <1% in benchmarks.
Remember as well high speed ddr4 adjusts the base clock of the cpu as well to reach the speeds ~ 3000+ mhz. Then add to that high latency, give me ddr3 anyday.

4790k or xeon is a better bet.
I got x99 when it came out "just because," and because I hadn't upgraded since x58; I don't regret it at all. Instant OC to 4.2GHz on a 5820k and overall I've been blown away at how snappy everything is. I can use CPU encoding on 1440p gameplay in real time without any lag at all, and the result looks great. Granted there is a pretty high entry point on the price, but it's totally worth it IMO.
yeah i allready saw that video yesterday TTL had a problem with overclocking the memory, but i dont realy understand why he makes such a point about it. Because if you run 2400mhz or 3000mhz ram, it doesnt make any sense.
Tech Yes City has a realy nice review about the 5820k with gaming and productivity benchmarks. There seems to be indeed a problem with the cache of the 5820K, The cache doesnt seem to be overclockable verywell. But i dont think that that will be a big issue.
Offcourse like i said, for just gaming, this platform is totaly overkill, and you would be totaly fine with a 4690K or 4790K or what not.

Like i said in my situation, €250 is allot for just ram, i allready have 2x8GB ram in my current build, if i go Z97 i dont have to buy new ram immediatly. so i save €250,- And offcourse i also save money on the motherboard. So i´m just gonne wait will arround christmas time i think, if DDR4 prices going to drop, then i might jump X99, but if not then i probably gonne choose for 4790K and trow the money into a new GPU.
If you are just a general user, and gamer, and you render a few video´s so now and then, then X99 is just not a platform for you.
i think i will wait a few months before looking at X99 for a upgrade. thanks to all for the help.
Not sure there's anything to be said about X99 that hasn't been already, pretty much only if you do a LOT of rendering (or maybe you want to stream render and play games at the same time, LTT did a vid on that.) or for vanities sake.
I like to have a more powerful PC because I like to keep my PC for a long time.
For most people- AM3+
For enthusiasts- X99
For people like me who use eBay- X58 (It's awesome that you can get two six core X5650s for $125 that in an SMP setup outperform the 4960X in heavy multithreaded tasks and benches)
I can't recommend Z97 if you don't already have a build utilising DDR3. Crucial has DDR4 on the cheap over here in the states (16gb for $200). If you have enough for the 4790k save up that extra $100 and go for the six core 5820k.
