X5470 Xeon 771 Overclocking

Thx for the quick reply.
Haven't tried reseating cpu. I thought if it runs then it suggests it's okay but i'll give it a try.
And regarding power supply what should I check?
Ram worked well in the previous config and i'm not testing rams in prime (using small FFTs).

Ram might be wonky at times with different FSBs, but shouldn't matter that much, try running prime with only 1 ram stick.
If the PSU is bad it might cause such odd behavior.

Ok i'll check the rams and PSU. It's a random LC power supply and I heard bad things about those (however i had no issue with the old config for 6 years at all).
Do you think the CPU and mobo is probably fine?

Mobo is probably fine, as long as you don't see any bulging or leaking capacitors.
I personally wouldn't touch a 6 year old no name low cost powersupply with a 10 foot pole.

  1. Try setting the fsb strap to 333 or 200.
  2. Make sure your north bridge has a fan on it.
