Wtf? ram prices are crazy

seriously why is 16gb of ddr3 ram like 80 bucks? a year ago it less than half this. ddr4 is either as expensive or less expensive than ddr3.
why is this?

I remember a couple years ago a place in Korea in think it was that makes a very large portion of the worlds ram, it either burnt down or ran out of a certain material. (I honestly can't remember the details). But I know people where saying that the price of ram would go up for the next few years because of it.

Or maybe this was just a dream?

Found it

DDR3, cheapest $58.

DDR4, cheapest $66.

What are you even talking about?

yeah i remember that too but after wards, after a while, the ram prices settled back down and now they're up again. so i dont think its the destruction of the fab lab.

have you been missing for the past 3 years of tech things happening

this is by far the cheapest DDR3 has ever been
1-2 years ago, it was double and then some of the prices it is now

?????

no i remember ram being 40 bucks for 16g about a year ago.

They like to milk the legacy system upgrades as long as there is stock. This is not the first run-through. Cheaper to fix current computer or buy new one...

where
and what kind
because if you are talking about this:

that stuff is anywhere between 40-60 at any given time

Yep, the market is the market. That costs less than 2g sticks of ecc DDr2...

The price graph of this kit of ram, which is fairly average for a 2 x 8GB kit's price trend over the last TWO years. Its been getting progressively cheaper up until about a couple months ago where its trending up slightly as DDR3 production is winding down in favor of DDR4

It's officially legacy

Keep in mind that DDR4 is becoming more of a thing.

As it becomes more and more relevant, DDR3 will become more expensive.

i got 12gb of g.skills ripjaw x 1866mhz cas 9 ddr3 for 49.99 in 2013 then like a year later then cost 90 bucks shit was nuts beautiful time to buy ram but yeah it was some geographical shit causing a shortage

This was the case when DDR2 overtook DDR and then DDR3 overtook DDR2. Prices will rise, as long as production of the last generation memory chips wind down to move on to the next gen. Ever heard of how production goes in chip manufacturers, OP?

This bullshit every time
I dont know if I should kek or crie

RAM is always cheap on ebay, if the seller is from China. Some places lie on their listings tho. I bought some DDR2 RAM and in the listing it said it was made by Samsung, but it was really some Chaintech brand ram. Those mother truckers.

Anyway, some 16GB sticks for $41.33 ( Hong Kong seller ):

Or you could hit up your local thrift store.

I always loved nude ram

I think it was about two years ago, when TigerDirect was running some crazy "free after rebate" deals. Picked up a pair of 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport for ~($25) after rebates, lol...
Not sure if that was a good or bad thing though, because it heavily influenced my decision to refit my PC with a z97, instead of x99 or z170 :|

By the way: If you have some patience, Amazon will routinely run decent sales. Just last week, they dropped this Crucial 16GB kit down to ~$58. Also, some credit cards will run promotions, which can combine with discounts(I bought 32GB worth of the ULV yellow Ballistix @ jet.com for ~$90, after discounts, this way)
