You could also crossfire with a 280/380/x/x or a 7950
Indeed, but I'd like it to match aesthetically you know.
That card is ancient, they advertise it as being "windows 7 ready" why dont you just get one single card that is much better than two oldies.
Your logic is mystifying. I'm not sure how the advertisement on the box has anything to do with the performance... Regardless of your unexplained lapse in performance judgement, the 7970 still holds favourable marks in modern games even at enthusiast settings.
While it's true that a single card would hold a few advantages, the simple fact that any card capable of beating two (heavily overclocked from the factory) 7970's in Crossfire would cost $550+ makes that idea a complete bust. A second card would cost anywhere between $120 - $200, for the record.
With that aside, sorry OP. Don't have one for you. Sold my Matrix about a year back.
I am merely saying that it shows how old that card is, Yeah but he will do much better by buying a single more recent card, there is full stop no point doing crossfire of two non top tier cards.
If you really need 2 sub top tier cards then you should be buying a single card that does the job. some people just like to have two cards for the 'cool' factor.
and maybe you can get better performance with two old cards, but the fact is you will be buying an old card which will be less efficient, less likely to be supported and driver issues will come into play, thermals and many more. Don't cheap out get a single good card is my message
The cost of an additional 7970 should be minimal compared to a fancy new card, and yield huge results. Should be fine imo
The 7970 was a flagship card, this point is mainly invalid.
Not everyone is Lord MoneyBags.
Your advice is completely applicable to a situation in which somebody is building or rebuilding from scratch. In that scenario, they would want to spend a bit extra of their budget on the high-end single GPU solution rather than two used cards. In this situation, the subject already has a single card and is looking to get a boost in performance with the cheaper option of adding another card. Spending 2X-3X more cash to completely swap for a single high-end card is most likely not in the budget, nor necessary.
Apologies again to @Disgruntled_Irishman, this is the last I say about this topic in this thread. Was not the intent to hijack it. If you wish a mod could actually move the last 5 posts to their own thread in the GPU section of the forum.
Haha, no problem Fouquin. I'm actually quite amused at how it turned out!
I think Cerimania needs to check a few of his facts.
I'm glad most people understand. Just trying to give my secondary rig at work a boost by adding a second cheap card, that's all.
