I am not sure whats happening by suddenly my USB 2.0 extenders going into my IOGear GCS1934 are failing.
So last night I ran some OM3 and plugged in my old Icron Spectra’s in hopes that my Gen 3 motherboard could talk to my Gen 3 USB ports on the KVM.
Sadly while I have good link, no devices are detected.
Dear Wendell, I would love a no frills workable USB extender with 5gb or higher, and ideally with an option for fiber so I dont have to run shielded CAT6A/7 which is crazy expensive next to pulling a fiber.
I just happened to be browsing “[BUILD] Custom 3u workstation case” and intrigued over your remote USB / DP / KVM ordeal and the limited options for USB3.x (what was it, ~$1000, or $5 for USB2.0 over CATx? Not cool!)
So I poked around a little and found a couple links that are suitable. Nothing too spectacular, I hadn’t expected you to have a current open request involving the topic. Here ya go though:
any 10g usb optic cable are about 140$ and they do work fine for usb3 gear. i have special converter to get usb hid function, but skip all thoses cat box. Or go only with icron. After you burn up few, the cost is better to go directly with proper one.
Yeah… may just have to pull the trigger on the Icron Raven’s just because its not exactly easy to run pre-terminated active optical cables 100ft through walls and ceilings.
I already have fiber and CAT6 between my office and my rack.
