Hi all, I am new here and am not sure if this is the right place to get my problem solved. I just built myself a new computer with a Ryzen threadripper 7985WX and an Asus WRX90 Sage-SE mobo. For storage I ended up transferring over my drives from my old computer. I ended up transferring over 2 Samsung 990 pro NVME SSD’s that are configured in AMD RAID expert2 as a RAID 1 array, and 3 1Tb HDD’s that are in a RAID 0 array. Yes, I know that hardware raid is not the best option, but using it for over 14 years on AMD hardware I have never had any problems with it. My current issue has to do with trying to install windows onto this computer. I am trying to currently install windows 10 onto this computer onto the NVME RAID array. Yes, I know windows 10 goes EOL next October; but I absolutely hate windows 11. I tried it on my laptop that came preinstalled on it for almost 6 months and hated every minute of it and ended up installing windows 10 back on it. I can get the installer to boot and get thru the language selection and hit install button, this is where my problem comes in. I get a warning saying that “a media driver your computer needs is missing”, assuming that it wants the AMD raid driver I give them a try starting with the rcbotton, then rcraid, then rccfg downloaded from both the AMD website and Asus’s page. This changed nothing and I was still getting the same warning no mater what I did. After many attempt’s trying different bios settings and load options, I even tried adding in the USB driver in case it was asking for that but it did not help. I also tried a different flash drive, tried all available USB ports, and different ways of imaging the USB. Nothing ended up changing the result and I was still getting the same warning. Just for the sake of trying it, I went and made a windows 11 USB and tried it; I was able to get thru to the point of selecting RAID drives and being able to hit the final install button; witch I didn’t do since I will never install 11 on this computer. I am assuming at this point that it is either an issue with the USB imaging process for windows 10, or that I am still missing a driver that I don’t know about that needs to be added during installation. I know I have seen people have been able to get windows 10 running on threadripper 7000 series without issues but don’t know how they did it. If anyone has any ideas on what to do to try and get windows installed, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
chipset driver
try adding that during device discovery
I just tried the chipset driver that can be downloaded from Asus’s website, and i get the message that “no device drivers were found”. looking at the files only laptop it seems to only be a post windows installation driver installer.
you may be SOL
we’ve seen plenty of systems that cannot take Windows 10 out of the box
Have you tried Windows Server 2022?
It’s free for 180 days and may provide the experience you are after
7000 Pro & WRX90 Sage defo works on Win 10… Try pointing to the root folder NVME_DID…
I just tried this, all i get is a “no device drivers were found” message. I attempted it with both 22h2 and 1903 windows 10 versions. I also tried moving the contents of the 3 sub folders into a single one and that also made no difference and i got the same message. anyone else got any other ideas?
Try installing in this order 1) RCbottom 2) RCRaid 3) RCcfg. You wont see the array until after RCRaid is installed.
This is the order I have been trying with since the start, I have just been adjusting the folder layouts with the different attempts.
I am not even at the point of selecting the drive to install to, I just hit the install now button and this happens before the product key entry screen. I am trying to attach a video to show where the message appears, but the system says I can’t at this time.
I’ve had to blow away the raid drive and recreate it in the past.
I have already tried this multiple times. I started off trying to use the migrated array witch got me nowhere. I went and deleted the aray in the bios and created both raid 0 and 1 options and got the same message. I even tried just completely deleted the aray and left them not assigned to a raid array and I did not get any difference in message as well.
