Would you take a Radeon 7950 over a GTX 760?

Would you take a Radeon 7950 over a GTX 760?

What brand of 7950 or 760 would you buy?

If I was to be playing Arma more than I do Battlefield, which card would preform better?

I do like the 3GB of GDDR5 that the 7950 offers but the clock speed of the 760 is greater (1.08mhz vs. 850mhz- and yes I know I could overcock the 7950).

*I have heard about AMD making a 9000 Series GPU I think so maybe I should wait??*

I'm trying to keep my build $750 and below and I'm looking for the best card to fit in my budget. My build in total without a GPU is $487. Heres by build so far.

Thanks for taking a look.

The 7950 will smoke the 760 in most games. An overclocked 7950 performs better than a stock 7970!

I'd go with the MSI Twin Frozr or the HIS iceq Turbo. They are both solid cards with optimal cooling designs. Don't buy the Gigabyte one, I've heard they are voltage locked.

^ Sapphire is also voltage locked, but Mine still gets a nice OC.

An overclocked 7950 has been known to beat an overclocked 770. It's dependent on the games, obviously.

So Arma would run better with an AMD card eventhough it's optimised for Nvidia cards?

Most games will be optimsed for AMD, including Battlefield 4. This is because AMD is hardware partner with many companies, like EA.

Go with whoever is optimised best with the games you wish to play. The 760 does have pretty big performance deficit in relation to the 7950 performance, and they cost near enough the same price. It's not that the 7950 will simply "run better". It's just that an overclocked 7950 is comparable to the 770, rather than the 760, in most instances.

The 7950 is a well-rounded GPU, with a great price to performance. I would advise getting the 7950, unless... all you play is ARMA?

Well I intend on playing Arma a lot more than I do Battlefield and Minecraft since DayZ SA is comming out as well as Arma III.

If it was like 90% ARMA, then get the 760. The 760 is a good card. If you play ARMA a lot, but lots of other games too, then I would get the 7950.

The 760 is incredibly well geared to 1080p gaming. However, the 7950 is geared for 1080p gaming, 1440p gaming, and happens to be a really good producitivty card. If you wanted to do any editing for "let's play" videos, AMD would be the way to go.

In short, the 7950 is much more versatile, gives greater performance in most games, comes with more free games.

Alright Berserker, thanks for the help. I think I'll stick with a 760 for now. The MSI Twin Frozr GTX 760. Maybe after I buy my PC, I'll save up and get another one and run SLI, for a 780. :P

If you trust your gut on this, go with whatever you feel is best. I know that the 7950 looks best on paper, but GPU boost 2.0 takes a little bit of the headache out of overclocking your GPU.

7950vs 760 in arma will make no difference trust me my friend with at 670 get the same fps my freind with a 7970 gets its all about the cpu and the server you are on.  Arma has nvidia PHYX but its forced on the the cpu regaurdless of the GPU so the cpu is just as important

I would go with a 7950 even though you might get 5 or so more FPS in ARMA/DayZ.  Chances are you'll be locked at 60 fps and both cards can do that easly.  The 7950 is on averge $50 or so less and you get 3 free games.

logic and smarts say get the 7950 wit free games. its just makes more sense. nvidia isnt convincing with standard performance for standard price. 7950 is a feaction of price for the same performance..and better if overclocked.
