Would this work with a 8320

would a ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2 work with a 8320 and would I be able to overclock further down the line?

i would never recommend a 970 board for any of the 8 cores. not to mention, if you want to do any overclocking, you'd really want a 990fx. i got an asrock extreme3 board for like $90 on newegg a year ago, and my 8350 sat fine at 4.7ghz with an H100 from corsair.

I've just seen way too many problems pop up with 8 cores and 970 boards.

Here's an ECS 990fx for $80 (not sure where you live, this is in US)

you might not recognise the brand, but ECS makes good stuff, and has been reliable to me for years.

Those Asrock 970 boards are not realy made for powerhungry 8 core cpu´s. 4+1 powerphase and not the best quality of vrm´s. this is basicly an issue with allmost all 970 boards. only Asus has a M5A97 evo R2.0 with 6+2 powerphase and digi vrm. but this board is hard to find for cheap outside Europe. so i would recommend to buy a decent 990FX chipset board.

  1. Asus M5A99FX pro R2.0 6+2 powerphase digi vrm
  2. Asus M5A99X evo R2.0 6+2 powerphase digi vrm (only 20 pci-e lanes)
  3. Asrock 990FX Fatal1ty killer 8+2 powerphase digi vrm.

At a reasonable price point look at one of those boards above.

Grtz Angel ☺

grab a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 revision 4.

It will only work if you are cool with the FETs catching on fire and exploding. Get a better  board.
