So my current system is AMD FX 8350 @ 4.5GHZ | Gigabyte 7870 GHZ Edition OC| AsRock 970 Extreme3 | 12GB Cosair Vengence 1600 | 128GB Vertex 4 |3TB Seagate Barracuda | AX750 | Cooler Master Storm Enforcer | CM Hyper 212 + | ASUS VS229H-P Black 21.5 IPS | AOC 1080p | Razer Black Widow Ultimate 2013 | Logitech g600 | Sennheiser HD558
But what im looking to upgrade from is my FX 8350. I have it overclocked to 4.5ghz and it has been working well for what i use it for. Though lately i have been disappointed with its performance. I play all kinds of video games on PC, but recently the MMO Wildstar has been running horribly on this AMD CPU due to weaker single core performance and just general horrible optimization.
I also like to livestream at 1080p and i can stream at 45fps with certain games but bumping it up to 60fps in most games just kills performance, even if the game is smooth, the cpu can handle the streaming of it at 60fps. I also make youtube videos so i render a lot.
I live 15min from a microcenter and i was thinking about getting either of these two cpus
Both are much cheaper then amazon/newegg and i have some money saved up for an upgrade, both with a decent motherboard would run me 300-400$ depending on which cpu i go with.
What would you recommend? would i see any real world performance increases by upgrading from my FX 8350? is it worth the upgrade right now? should i wait a little longer since intel just announced there new haswell e cpus and see where the pricing changes?
Have you personally went from an fx 8350 to a i7/i5 from ivybridge/haswell? recommend a different cpu?
Lots of questions i just don't want to go spend money if i wont see my money put to good use.
You will want the i7 4790k because the 4690k does not support hyper-threading ... which you will need for best performance while gaming and live streaming. IMO it would be worth it ... but you must decide that.
If there is one of those Micro Centers near you they have an awesome price right now $80 off retail anywhere. (in store pickup only)
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor $280 is an awesome price !
Whether it is worth it or not ... you have to answer that yourself.
Please note that these are just my opinions and for your information ... I recommend researching and reading any and all posts before making any decisions.
Basically, yes. I am a big fan of AMD processors, as I regard them as the best bang for your buck, as it were, but if you have a specific single-core process in mind then an i7 will knock any AMD out of the water.
The alternative would be to go with an FX-9370, which can overclock to 5GHZ and remain stable with the right cooling. That would improve your performance for less outlay, but ultimately the Intel chips are the best on the market and there's no getting away from that at the top end.
The i7 4790k is good option especially if your not going to upgrade again for a few years.
Stay away from the fx9370 or 9590! You would be better off oc'ing your fx8350 to 4.8ghz. Either way you would need a 990fx quality board. The older 97 or 970 boards are not the best for the fx8320 or 8350 in terms of oc'ing.
Your 7870 should be fine for what your doing. Upgrade that in few months when the R 300 AMD and GTX800 series come out.
Far as boards for the i7, I would recommend Asus or EVGA Z97.
