Would downgrading hurt multitasking?

I'm currently using an i7 3770 and i feel like it's way overkill. Would it hurt multitasking to downgrade to a Pentium G3258?

While I play I usually have Skype, Spotify and Chromium running in the background. Would Alt+Tab become slower?

that sounds like a pretty insane downgrade, and i'm not too fond of pentiums.

(had to "fix" a pentium rig today, because it was slow, turned out it was just a slow computer)

i'm pretty sure that pentium will hurt your perfromance quite a bit, as you're basicly losing half your cores.

Why downgrade to a Pentium? Your 3770 is about as good as a 4790 minus the board features and newer architecture.

I feel like I paid more than I should. I felt no difference going from an i5 4670k so I wondered what it would be like to go über budget.

why bother, you already have the 3770, there is no reason to downgrade unless you are really really hurting for money, you won't get as much as you paid for since the chip is now used. You literally gain nothing from downgrading.

Meh. You are right.

The Pentiums are really crap. They are only good for an absolute budget build or of you just want to mess around an over clock.

They only have two coress. No hyperthreading. Not much cache. No turbo boost. Missing other advanced features and instructions. They are quite slow. Slower than a 760K from AMD.

IIt would be a massive downgrade. You would notice a significant decrease in performance especially when multitasking.

Plus you already have it. You would need to go and get a new motherboard and the CPU if you wanted to downgrade. I don't really see much of a point. Especially considering it'll be so much slower.

Well he could get a shitty Ivy Bridge pentium.

But, OP, if you want to trade CPUs I'm all for it. I have a 3570k. /s

What if I were to build a completely new system. Should I get an AMD 760K instead or?

I don't understand. Why would you build an entirely new system that is slower just because you think you have too much? That makes no sense at all. Save the money and keep what you have. it should last you a good while.

I happen to have a Matx Z87 motherboard laying around and a Corsair 350D so I feel if i could scrap some parts together make a second system my friends could play on when they come over. I could ofc also just sell them and buy something else.
