Workstation Build, Help to pick CPU/Mobo Combo

Hello L1tech,

Im looking for advice on this Build, the Workstation will be dedicated to Post-Production at 1080p at most(Adobe Premiere, Vegas) and Graphic Desing/Draws almost all we be Drawings/Manga Creation (Photoshop, PaintSai, Corel).

Added the Forum Guidelines:

  • Budget. How much are you willing to spend?

$450 USD, i can get both of the Kits with CPU/Motherboard at that Price

  • Where do you live (what country, don’t post specific details), and what currency do you use?

Mexico, But i use USD, its almost the same Price per part as in the US

  • Is there a retailer you prefer?

For the New Parts i can get those on Amazon MX or in another Retail store

  • Do you need or already have peripherals? (this can add to costs)

Yes already have almost all, i will be using MX Master and a Cheap Keyboard, EVGA 550W B3 or Season S12, Sata M.2 SSD 512 SK Hinyx, 16GB of RAM HyperX Fury 2133, 2x2TB HDD Seagate, NZXT Phantom, Evo212 CM Cooler

  • What will you be using your Glorious computer for? Gaming? Rendering? Mix of both? Or is this a home media PC or Steam Box?

Mostly Workstation job, maybe a light gaming

  • Do you overclock or want to get into overclocking?

If i get the Xeon Combo Overclock its out of the board, if i get the Ryzen i will be overclocking, but i will prefer Stability over speed since this is a Workstation

  • Do you plan on going for custom water-cooling now, or in the future?

No, This will be air Cooled for Uptime Reasons

  • Operating System. Do you need a new one?

No, Will most likely be using Windows 10 Pro

Currently i have the option to go for:

  • Ryzen R7 1700 8c/16t

Or

  • Xeon 2690v3 12c/24t

I can get both CPU and Motherboard for almost the same price, the only real diference is that the Xeon Combo will be used/Second Hand, i know that the Ryzen has better clock speed and its newer, but the Xeon has 24T in Total, both have access to Nvme Drives and tons of I/O.

Please help/advice,

Thank you in advance

have fun.

It really depends on what kind “workstation” workoads you are refering to.
Ryzen offers a very good value for money if you are looking into a mix of workstation stuff like rendering or editing and gaming.
The Ryzen 1700 is a very great chip for the money.
But i would highly recommend to pair it with a X370 motherboard.

I would definitely go for a new ryzen 7 1700 with a good X370 motherboard instead of a used xeon combo

i’d lean twords ryzen, but you’ll likely see more optimizations on intel for software packages you listed.
