So my job is about to just give me a ton(2-3) really nice servers provided that I wipe the drives at our office and then take them to my house, I can do whatever I want to them! So what do I want to do? I want to build a Local version of https://ctf365.com/ Now I’ve made hacking labs before but all using the same computer and a few monitors… if you check out the link you see its hosted and you access the vms via VPN. I want something like that but locally with an outside computer as the Attacker. I want just one server filled with Vms to attack and I can attack them with my desktop or laptop. Would using http://virl.cisco.com/l be any help in making the virtual network for this project. What I aim on building is basically CTF365+OSCP type of playing field for myself and friends if needed.
any help on how I can do this would be most welcome
Also Once I use one server for that… what do you think would be a cool idea to use the other server for? maybe a NAS/PFSENSE router all in one?
Thanks man, I can't wait till I get my hands on them its gonna be so much fun! But right now I really wanna know how I can make it into a hacking lab that I can access with a computer either on or not on the same network.
Thats cool, this is more of like I have them laying around doing nothing what should we do with them and like hey new guy you want some switches and servers
I would personally use them for storing all of my stuff, running a couple of game servers, and possibly hosting some of my own websites one of them would be a server like you mentioned though.. Not sure what you can really use them for though.
Well I wasn't really asking what to use them for but more so how to do what I want with at least on of them.. I'd probably make another one a media server and all but The focus of this post is to make a hacking lab that can be accessed from the outside. I guess when I think about it it would be as simple as giving all the vms an external IP... wouldn't it?
You mean buy static Ips? I would probably have to just to make sure they don't change on reboot or every so often etc. so I figured out how I'd be building it, I'd zenserver the servers and place all my Vms I'd then use a sonicwall with VPN connections to connect to the server. and from there you'll be able to attack the the Vms on the server
there are many (free and paid) DDNS services that would allow external access via domain name. Nothing wrong with buying a static IP either. It depends mostly on whether you care about it enough to spend money on it :)
