Won the neweg lottery, not sure what to do

so i got a ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon RX 6700 XT OC Edition Graphics Card (AMD RDNA 2, PCIe 4.0, 12GB GDDR6, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort …

and a ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming (WiFi 6) AMD AM4 (3rd Gen Ryzen) ATX Gaming Motherboard (PCIe 4.0, 2.5Gb LAN, BIOS …

Don’t have a processor for it , so, new build or sell one or 2 of the skus?

To be clear I just haven’t paid attention to the the AMD CPU side of it, will likely pass down an 8700K to a kid if I rebuild. He’s riding a gtx 670, this wouls bump him up to my rtx2070, unless he’s an ass and then his 7 year old sister gets it.

Build or sell mobo

I was thinking the same however you can more easily get a current gen Ryzen cpu now, I was able to grab one from AMD direct as MSRP.

But you would probably be better off selling that B550 mobo.

ty, will likely wait it out a couple days and deal with the wife. I’m not a professional hoarder, but a couple kids not in a school for over a year and a global chip shortage is turning me into one.

I still have extra toilet paper from the first rush, gasoline will be next in my area.

I would build another system. That’s just me. If you have an 8700K then a 5600X or similar is probably faster. It could depend on luck, if you got a really good 8700K and overclocked it, then it might win.

Of course, I would take the opportunity and build a new system with a 12-core 5900X. I love all those cores, but your mileage may vary.

And of course that new board has PCIe 4 and 2.5G Ethernet.

thanks, i already made that decision, parts on the way. I went 3700x, for what I need is keeping household machines running, the more backups the better. Where I live the kids go to school 2 days a week and they gave them 5 year old ipads, one came with a bluetooth keyboard and I said fuck that, cobbled together a bunch of old parts and built elementary kids crappy workstations. Then a couple months of trying to find parts for anything. I gave then my speakers even… And you didn’t ask for all that. Thanks for the advice, i’ll pay it forward.
