I personally do not mind CD Projekt delaying the release of Witcher 3 and their letter was appreciated. At least they are letting everyone know three months before it's originally release. In age of AAA games being released broken and patched later, CD Projekt stands as example of taking time to doing it right.
What do you guys think of CD Projekt's delaying of Witcher 3?
It's a pretty big title with a lot going for it. I don't mind however much they delay it, so long as it is polished when it comes out and doesn't come out absolutely buggy and gameplay-breakingly broken.
When it does come out though, it would be nice if CD Projekt devs had an update policy the likes of Larian Studios. Those guys dished out updates almost 2 times a week for some time for Divinity, while taking absolutely all user feedback under advisement.
considering I still have to play the first two witcher games...they can delay it for a year for all I care, but it had better be mind blowing when they are done.
I don't mind the delay in the slightest. It's not like they are releasing an unfinished product like ubisoft or keeping the public totally in the dark like valve. I will also probably be more willing to upgrade my rig for the new release date (still want to build up my savings a little more after a recent car purchase). Is this the first delay announced for Witcher 3?
I would prefer that they give a release date with more flexibility when they announce it than delay it after the fact. Say, you think that it will be done early 2015, then say something like "In time for holiday season 2015" or something. If you move it up, then whatever. If it does have to be delayed though, this is the absolute best way to go about it imo.
I think they see the issue with the industry at the moment. If you delay a game you annoy fans, but if you delay a game and its still a buggy mess then you annoy fans to no end. If your game comes out late but is amazing then the fans will forgive you. Either way its issue to me cause it gives me more time to play other games before its release. And we get witcher 3 around the summer months when the drought of gaming happens every year.
Great, the game looks really ground-breaking and revolutionary so it is understandable if it is late, besides its better too release a finished product than something unfinished, and being willing to push the release date back a few months, past the prime sale period and possibly their financial year shows their willingness and commitment to releasing the product they advertised.
And we all know that once it is released development practically ceases. That is simply how things work, companies can not justify to employ people to work on projects that are already finished, to improve the experience of customers that have already given them all the money they are going to give them.
This has cost them a lot of money, potential lost sales, the time value of the money they are recieveing much later, the extra cost of continued development. And I hope people can understand and appreciate that, they are after all a for profit company, and we should be greatful that they are willing to put their money where their mouth is if needed to back their promises and deliver the quality of content that is expected of them!
Alot of companies out there, *cough* Ubisoft, Sega, EA *cough* would have just cut development early, taken your money and ran off months ago releasing a completely unacceptable pile of crap that bears no resemblance to anything they promised or showed.... Then given you a free hats DLC or another broken paid 'free'mium game that no one is buying any-more to show how 'sorry' they are...
They don't need to apologize, they should take their time and make sure that it's a great game when it comes out. If someone is seriously complaining about the delay then they should consider a few things:
1. They obviously need more time. We've seen time and time again what happens if you rush a release to hit a certain deadline and I don't think anybody wants a second AC:Unity or BF4....
2. Even if they managed to pull it off and the game got released earlier (relatively bug-free) it would probably be lacking in many features that were originally planned.
3. Stop preordering video games. Well my guess is that the people who are complaining about the delay already preordered it and are now disappointed. Just don't do that, wait for the release, wait for proper reviews to come out and then buy the game. In the days of digital distribution you can literally buy it a minute after release, nobody will "run out of" copies, etc. Even if it is CD Project Red, even if you trust them, just don't get so invested in a game before it is even done.
4. Just play something else while you're waiting. Seriously, I bet there are tons of good games that you could play while waiting for the Witcher 3, you don't have to agonize over it for the next year.
Good on them, I seriously hope that other publishers will see this and simply get the fact that we don't want rushed PoS games just to hit a certain deadline, we want good games whenever they are ready. I also hope that the majority of people will react to it in a similar fashion and simply accept (or even embrace) the extra time that they're taking.
I'd rather play the game later with as little hassle as possible than deal with gamebreaking bugs and wait for countless patches. Remember all those shitty bugs that prevented certain quests in Skyrim from being completed? That sucked so much. And The Witcher 3 is way more massive.
