Windows Subsystem for Linux: How Good is It?

A company limited the software we could download, and restricted virtualization software. However, I was able to run the Windows Subsystem for Linux.

I’d rather run Linux on the metal, but given the choice to use Linux Subsystem or not, I decided to give it a shot and it worked okay. I Attempted to get i3 to run on it, but I struggled to allow a windowing server to run. Instead, I used emacs, which made things bearable.

My guess, is that it’s going to get better seeing as Windows Terminal is going to let you change between shells (cmd, powershell core, ubuntu, opensuse and debian) by using a drop down button.

It looks like you won’t have to launch the subsystem going forward; you might just be able to open windows terminal and choose whatever shell you want.
