Windows RDP not accessible with OpenVPN but is using PPTP

I help support our church with “IT stuff.” When I deployed the network, I used OpenVPN to connect to an on-site computer from home. Probably 18 months ago, it stopped working. I swapped over to a PPTP VPN connection but I would like to go to OpenvPN.

The OpenVPN connection authenticates and works but it doesn’t connect to the computer I need to connect to. I am successfully connected and have a local IP address.

Edit:
Windows 11 PC at home
Windows 11 PC onsite
TPLink OC200 controller (and TPLink managed switch etc)
Using Omada cloud for management

TUN or TAP?

You know, I am not 100% sure. I am assuming TUN and I am connecting the client (at my house) to the network there. Omada doesn’t have a configuration setting doe this (at least not when configuring the VPN).

its possible that your remote control solution may require layer 2 (TAP).

I don’t have an answer to your question, but you could run Tailscale on both computers as an alternative. If you need to access more than just that computer, then there’d be a little more setup to advertise the whole subnet you’re accessing to Tailscale.
