Windows Photoviewer Replacement?

SO I've decided that with my recent reinsatll of window (8.1) I want to switch to a more useful photoviewer, that's, obviously better than the default, and NOT a modern 'app'

I've tried Picasa but not much else-

Got any suggestions O' Mighty Tek?

I think adobe has one, I used one the other day too but i can't remember what it is :/

I use infranview.

Even has full .gif support.

What else do you want to do with a photo viewer, other then to view photos? I have no problems with it. For more editing options, I right click on picture opened in photoviewer and select software of choice.

support for more formats like .DNG .gif

also the ability to do a slideshow that isn't fullscreen

and a timeline on the bottom to see what's coming next could be nice

used ACDSee back in the day, dunno if it's good anymore tho.

infranview has all of that.

I'll check it out, but i need a nap first

Yeah, I use InfranView for forensic image analysis. It supports EXIF comments its a great program I just don't like the GUI interface. It looks a bit dated to me.

thing i hate about infranview is that it tries to read every file in the directory so when it comes up against a file that isnt an image it throws an error dialog. makes viewing pictures a pain in the ass.

maybe there's a setting im missing?

You can try,
