Okay so I want to run W7 on my HDD as a gaming system, pure gaming, no web browsing no media playback nothing, just steam, origin and some other games.
Now I asked here as more than likely the fan boys would have a pop about this.
I want to be able to control it mostly via x360 controller. Maybe even have big picture mode at start up.
What processes should I strip so that the system is cough "stable" cough enough to still perform good enough.
Any other advise?
Thanks
I'm also interested in creating a bare bones windows (8.1) install just for gaming. I've used windows server 2012 r2 before and it comes with a nice GUI for managing all the active services. Is there a comparable solution for windows 8.1? I found projects like nlife and winreducer but they all seem outdated.
Have you tried disabling all services and then switching back-on the ones that receive complaints? That's what I did with my start-up processes on Windows XP. I'm not sure how far that would get you though.
You should be able to have Steam auto-start and use big picture by changing interface settings. I'm not sure if it will start full-screen or just run docked. Task Scheduler might be able to force that behavior if necessary.
It's best to cut the fat with a custom image.
I've used this before to hack the shit out of win7/8 and It's a time saver.
Be prepared to break things though as you know windows doesn't play nice once you start dissecting it :P
Thanks guys and yeah ino dam closed source software lol, and what thirdmortal said just remember the system may not boot at all, so run all this in a VM first, I plan to do that before I run it bare metal :)
