Windows can only be installed to GPT disks

I'm trying to install windows 7(64) pro on a new build. I keep receiving this message:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. The EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks"

What is the fix?

Build components:

AsusM5A97 R2 motherboard

AMD FX-6300

Seagate Barracuda 1TB

I had this same problem as I was unfamiliar with UEFI bios till I got my new mother board.  You have to go into bios and set your optical drive from efi to sata dvd.  That should solve the problem.

If your installing to a fresh HDD, when it asks which hard drive you'd like to install to, click advance options and then select the current partition and delete it. This should solve your problems.

Thanks for the response. Looked at that bios, but could not find a way to make that change?

 

First new build in twenty years very rusty.
