Windows BSOD on boot even in safe mode

I was updating windows drivers and had a windows feature installation pending reboot when i got a windows BSOD with SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED and now I get that BSOD whenever I boot the computer into windows or even safe mode. is there a way to recover my install as I have a dev environment for my classes setup in it and i have an assignment due tonight?

EDIT pnputil /enum-devices /problem lists multiple devices with problems but i cannot figure out how to uninstall them.

EDIT2 i now get vmbusr.sys as what failed

Just out of curiosity which processor/mobo combo you have. I’ve had that for awhile.

I have a msi x370 gaming pro carbon with a ryzen 1800x

Time to get out the recovery disc or reinstall.

You have two options:

  • revert to an older state through the Windows restore point feature
  • run sfc /scannow and see if that helps to restore the damaged installation.

If none of these options work is time to make a Linux Windows image and start from scratch.
