Windows boot up to Black screen with cursor

Hey there,

So, i'm having a bit of an issue with windows 7. One day I was on my pc, and my ethernet cable was loose. To fix it I reached behind my computer, but in the process, my power cord for my PC wiggled out. My pc shut down and has not booted properly since.

My PC keeps booting up to a black screen with a moveable mouse cursor. I have tried just about everything. Safe mode will not work, I do not have a system image to restore from and  I need my files on my hard drive. I ran Checkdisk and that ran for a while and even "Replaced invalid security id with default security id". That ran for hours but did not work.

Can anyone help me , it would be appreciated.

You may have tried already but on the F8 menu where you see safe mode is there a 'last known good configuration' option? try that.

If you have no repair disk and cannot get to safe mode it doesn't look great.

If you have another computer and a HDD caddy you could try repairing the disk that way which may help...

The outlook is not good hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me has an easy fix...
