Windows 8..or not

Is it worth getting windows 8, or should I stick to 7? I've been using 7 on 3 different computers, and I feel like it's time to go for something new. I also think it'd be kind of fun tweaking with it and making it mine. Windows 7 is already pretty much how I need it right off the disc. But Windows 8 is more of a tablet type thing, not really set up for a mouse and keyboard.

So what I'm saying is, is Windows 8 pretty good once you have it all set up? And what all would you suggest doing to it? I heard somewhere about turning some Metro thing off? But Teksyndicate is pretty much one of the only sites I have access to until I'm done with my build up. So I'm just looking for some tips.

Everyone is about to show up telling you to stick to Windows 7, however, it is YOUR decsision. To make it "special", try these nice piecez of software

Okay heres the deal Spenlard. Windows 8 is good for people who do nothing other than type and people who suck windows off, but for our type, its not brilliant. It holds us back from achieving our potential. So heres what I'd suggest doing. On two computers (one of them being the one you use) keep Windows 7. Then if you have the spare money, get a copy of Windows 8 for the other computer. Then you can keep all those Microsoft pleasure seekers at bay.

Just give Start8 a try and enjoy it xD No fanboyism on windows 7

I bought into all the hate on windows 8, but when actually tried it it wasnt that bad. Actually it was pretty good in the OS and alot of the shity stuff inside metro can easily be ignored while the windows 8 desktop is like an improved windows 7. My only complaint is the fact that it is a nightmare switching between windows 8 and other OS's (windows 7, ubuntu, etc.), because for some reason it fucks with the OS's even when they are on seperate drives.

I am making a video to cover alot of current issues, regarding Windows 8 as it stands right now. I'll work on it a little tomorrow and hopefully have it up in a couple of days.

I personally like it and after binding hotkeys to my G510 I can get around a lot quicker than on Win7 (that and I need the organization of the new start menu). If you can install it separately or VM it and try to use it for a week or two to see if you like it, it's really not something you should have someone else decide for you as it's a matter of preference.

Windows 8 is Microsoft’s attempt to gain market share in the ever growing tablet and phone market. Desktops are not the main market for this OS. I am noticing that companies like Logitech have designed a mouse to accommodate this OS. To me there is something inherently wrong when you have to make hardware to accommodate software. There have been complaints about certain hardware not working with Windows 8. There is a video from Logan called “Windows 8, it’s almost not terrible.” The other suggestion Logan made was to wait until after the first service pack comes out for it. I would go with the old adage of “fools rush in where angels fear to tread.” As always, this is just my opinion and eventually the choice is yours.

Go with Windows 8. It is an improvement on all areas, of course there are quirks here and there and those will be fixed over time. Some people are slow to adapt to new paradigms so if you're hell bent on clinging to old paradigms then there are solutions available such as Start8.

Windows 8 is fine, just install classic shell. No I don't actually like the start menu and anyone who does is dumb but windows 8 removed a ton of stuff from the default search and I open everything by WinKey => First 3 letters of what I want => enter    and classic shell fixed windows breaking that.

I would get windows 8 if you want to be different and piss off a bunch of windows haters, but honestly, I would stick to windows 7 especially if you just so happen to aleady have a copy.

Gaming is coming to Linux, which is free, I cant wait :D

Merry Christmas btw.

Just don't put it on your gaming rig... despite what some are saying the majority seem to actually be taking a frame hit. Maybe drivers will help this later on, but as of now Win7 for gaming.

That is just one random example... not going to flood this with videos :D

Go with Windows 8. It's much faster then Windows 7. And I don't really have a huge problem with the Metro Start Screen because of the taskbar. I actually kind of like the extra functionality of the Store. It's like having the best of a desktop and a tablet. If you're not a fan of the Metro Start Screen then you can just get Start8. I actually use Start8 myself and it works great.

And gaming isn't a problem either. I've played many games and I haven't had a problem yet.

Windows 7 for life mate it's so much better. i'm not a fanboy of windows 7 although i am a hateboy of windows 8. I think windows 8 is just mac that can run exes. windows 8 is for the stupid the old and kids. same as macs are. get win 7 for gaming and anyone with a brain will have linux as well.

You say you have three different machines with windows 7, so if anything you could upgrade one and give it a try. I know many people say to wait until service pack 1 to fix most of the bugs. But really it's your choice, you also might want to wait for more programs and such to have compatability with it.

I've installed Windows 8 on my main computer as well as "classic start menu" which can be found at ninite.com. It works great and I never have to deal with metro.
Windows 8 is cheap and I really don't see any downsides compared to Windows 7 as long as you install Start8 or something similar :)

Windows 8 is amazing. That is all I can say.

I don't know if it's been stated like this before but: Windows 8 is a broad improvement over window 7 in terms of utilities and performance, There is a learning curve when it comes to interfacing with settings and menus but it's nothing impossible, the major detractor is Metro and the use of Charms/ lack of start menu which can be removed or largely ignored through the use of classic shell and third party applications. You may even enjoy the metro interface who knows, my vote would be to go ahead and pick it up, use classic shell, and brace for the sexyness that will be Service Pack 1.

I used Windows 8 on a friends rig and couldn't stand it at all.. It was just installed, so it had Internet Explorer, and it didn't even work half the time or it was opening windows and not showing it and I had to ALT TAB and find them.. I just can't stand the whole way it's setup. If there's any ways to get rid of all that tablet-y stuff and have it more like 7 I'd get it.. but most of those apps were so pointless, and the new main/start menu thing really doesn't make sense to me considering it's still got the W7 desktop menu just chillin there doing nothing. I just don't really get it and can't really use it well. He said it wasn't bad, but it seems like he was feeling the same just was still kinda excited about trying it out.

All in all, I just feel like I'm being held back on it. Like I am not getting full access to everything ya' know?

Still if there was a way to make it nearly the same interface as W7 I'd be cool with it.

No it's terrible, you can't configure defualt programs properly, programs dont work correctly either
