Done? Good. For all intents and purposes... I am in that world. "How can that happen!?" you might ask? Well, there are a total of six personal computers in my current place of residence. Three of which are mine and run Linux, three of which are my parents and run OSX (a shame, I know).
The Goal:
Now, my goal is to install Windows 8 on the computer that I am building. This computer will be refered to as the 'target computer'.
The Catch:
Simple, the target computer does not have an optical drive, so standard installation by DVD is not possible.
The Tools:
These are the tools that you are allowed to use.
- 1 Copy of Windows 8, aquired through any legal means
- 1 USB flash drive
- 1 Other computer, complete with optical drive, running either Linux or OSX
- Any software freely and legally avialable to your operating system of choice, with the exception that Wine is not allowed.
The Challenge:
Using the tools listed above, get the single copy of Windows 8 installed on the target machine. List any and all steps below. The winner will be chosen by the timliness and correctness of his/her solution and the ease at which I can implement that solution. The reward shall be my eternal thanks and gratitude, as well as a decent helping of Geek and/or Nerd points/cred.
Thank you very much, Derek! You have my eternal gratitude. Unfortunately I do not have any Google Credits at the moment, so I'll just have to award you 10,000 Nerd Points instead. :)
Unfortunately this involves running several .exe files, which requires Wine to do so under Linux. If you check the rules again, you will notice that I specified that Wine was off limits.
